It has come to this: We want you to take over the BMC.

How? It begins with a membership form, dues, and your attendance at our first ever membership orientation session at 6:30 on May 6th, at our 375 Stuyvesant Avenue headquarters. Find details here.
Those are the requirements to becoming a member, but that’s all mechanics.  Membership really starts when you decide to actively build power alongside your neighbors. Think of the BMC as a big social change toolbox with a lock on it. We are not only handing over copies of the keys, but also asking you to draft a blueprint for what we will build and fix.
For the past 18 months the BMC staff and board have been nurturing relationships with stakeholders in Central Brooklyn. This has included parents, principals and teachers. Women reclaiming their streets. Boys and young men targeted by abusive police tactics. Block and tenant association members. Student leaders. Queer activists of color.  People looking for local food alternatives. Citizen journalists. You and anyone else reading these words.
What we all have in common is a desire to improve economic and social conditions in New York City. We are hundreds strong, potentially thousands. And if we mobilize, we will take control of the future of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights.
That’s a promise we can make to each other.  Becoming a member is a way to keep it.
