BMC is organizing the Central Brooklyn Rapid Response Network, which will strategically deploy a group of mostly Core BMC members trained to execute direct actions and mobilize community support in immediate response to acts and threats of injustice. Preparations and trainings begin March 2017.

Tell the Story of Policing in Crown Heights

Brooklyn Deep is looking for Crown Heights residents who have had experiences with issues of policing in Crown Heights and are interested in sharing their perspectives through the telling of their individual oral histories. We’re collecting histories across generational, racial, faith-based and sexual identity backgrounds and from all geographic sections of the Crown Heights community. Interviewees will receive a stipend of $30.

BMC routinely cycles in dope crews of seasonal and part-time organizers who support our work. Special shout outs go out to V Plotkin, Sabrina Bazile, and Christine Johnson-Alexander, who all recently completed assignments with BMC. Collectively they’ve published this newsletter, organized vital community outreach, hosted leadership orientations and provided critical fundraising support. The impact of V, Sabrina & Christine’s contributions will be felt well beyond their time with us.

Also informing the discussion is an interview with Daniel Goldstein, who looks back on his controversial refusal to leave his home when developers wanted to tear it down to build the Barclays arena and the surrounding high rises.
