God's Timing, Not Ours!

September 2018

We are finally settled in our own place in Spain! This year can be summed up in three words: waiting, trusting, faithful. As you know, we expected to arrive in February. Despite our best laid plans, an unexpected delay in our Spanish documents held us up for three months. Sitting on our suitcases, I was unsure of what to write during those months. It was frustrating, especially when we finally received word that the Spanish document was ready, only to realize that our Russian background checks were expiring before we could make our embassy appointment. We had to redo every document at least once. Then, our budget was unexpectedly increased right as we were finally able to apply for our visas. Once in Spain, our efforts to find a home were frustrated by the lack of available housing. For over a month we searched, only seeing three available places. Right as we were ready to sign on the only place within our budget, God unexpectedly opened the door to the townhouse that He had for us, but we still had to wait almost three weeks for it to be ready. We lived in the temporary quarters at IMM for almost two months, so we are so incredibly thankful for your prayers and grateful to those who made our stay at the IMM apartment possible. Instead of a small hotel room, we had two bedrooms, plus a shared living room and kitchen.

Now, sitting in the kitchen of our townhouse, I can see God's hand at work in the waiting. For two years now God has been training us to trust when He is silent, to be still and wait upon Him and His timing, and to know that He is faithful! First it was with the kids, this year with provision for our calling. Looking back, we can see the blessings He provided in the wait. Both of our moms had major medical scares while we waited, we got to celebrate each of our kids' first birthdays with us, surrounded by family (It will be 4 to 5 years before that happens again.), and both Kaleb & Katelyn were medically cleared by all of their doctors and completed speech therapy. Here in Spain, the wait allowed us to bond with our colleagues and to adjust to the time change, culture, and expectations without the immediate need to set up house. It also positioned us to rent our home from a wonderful couple who is on their journey towards Christ. For four years another missionary couple has spoken into their lives and planted seed. We are believing that that seed will bear fruit and that we will have the priviledge of seeing them accept Jesus as their savior. Within a week of meeting them, we met an Iranian lady at a training seminar at IMM who gave us an Arabic New Testament to give to them. The day we signed our contract, we were able to give them the New Testament. Please pray with us for Safa and Cristina, that God would bless their home, and make himself known to them.

We have shared with you about the Heritage Project, the cinematic retelling of eight stories from the lives of historic North African believers who lived in current day Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and Algeria. Some were early church leaders, while others were martyrs for their faith in Christ. What we haven't told you is that these films were requested by believers in these nations. Recent years have seen an increasing number of North Africans place their faith in Christ, yet they face persecution and accusations that they are betraying their heritage by adopting a western religion. The truth is that not only is Christianity NOT a western religion, it actually traces its roots back to North Africa. Christianity IS their heritage, and they want the truth to be exposed so that more North Africans might consider the claims of Christ.

But these powerful stories will impact not only North Africa, but the worldwide church as well, as they are translated into multiple languages. Anywhere believers are undergoing persecution for their faith, or face accusations that Christianity is a western religion, these stories will empower them with the truth and inspire them to stand strong in their faith. The global church owes an incredible debt to these early North African believers who stood strong in their faith and contributed much to our theology and practice. We have a rich and costly heritage from these nations that is relatively unknown to modern western believers. It is a heritage that we need to know about in these last days, as persecution and pressure increases against the church in nations where it has long enjoyed favor and prominence. We, the American church, need to hear their stories!

Production begins on the last four stories this month! And we are so excited to be able to physically participate in the filming process, not just raise financial partnerships. Language study will be put on hold until spring, as Kirk takes a role in production. He also is hosting a construction team this month that is doing some much needed work on the studio building, as well as continuing to recruit new teams to come and help. If you are interested, please let us know.

In October, we will both participate in the World Assembly of God Fellowships' congress that is to be held in Madrid. It is an incredible opportunity to share with mission's leaders from countries all over the world how International Media Ministries can partner with them to reach the least reached in their nations.
Thank you again for partnering with us!

Summer Highlights!

This has been an eventful summer! We moved into our new place on July 15th, and on July 18th Katelyn fell and ended up in the hospital for two nights. We are so thankful that she will have no lasting effects from her accident. God's hand of protection was definitely upon her. Then, less than a week after she came home, we discovered that we had an unwelcome house guest. After trying every trap we could get our hands on, one month later we were finally able to show him the door.

The month of August help arrived in the form of Leah. Because of her help, Karla was finally able to catch up on many of the things that were put off during our three months of transition.

Visiting sissy in the hospital.

Our unwelcome guest!

Leah - our Godsend this month.
