BORDER PEOPLE
Where should the next Border People training sessions be held?
In 2013 the Border People project organised a series of training sessions for 97 Information Advisors working or volunteering in organisations that deal with cross border enquiries from the public. The one-day courses provided an overview of the social welfare system on the other side of the border and highlighted common cross border issues e.g. exporting benefits, where to pay tax, where to access health care, where to claim illness benefit, etc.
Preparations are now beginning for the spring series and as before the one-day courses will be delivered in areas with most demand.
- For further information please visit www.borderpeople.info - the central access point for cross-border information on the island of Ireland.

We now publish monthly summaries (in PDF format) of Parliamentary references to cross-border issues on our website. Both the NI Assembly and the Oireachtas (Dáil & Seanad) are covered.

NEW: MATCHING SERVICE FOR SCOTENS NORTH/SOUTH RESEARCH PROJECTS
The purpose of the matching service is to help find partners in a relevant subject area from the other jurisdiction.
In line with its objective of providing a supportive framework for collaborative research and professional activities in teacher education in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, the Standing Conference on Teacher Education North and South (SCoTENS) provides SEED FUNDING for projects such as research, conferences and exchanges which further this objective.
As the funding is for a COLLABORATIVE project, a minimum of 2 partners is required, with at least one of the partners coming from each jurisdiction, north and south. The application has to be for a joint project to secure funding.

BORDER ROADS TO MEMORIES & RECONCILIATION
This has been a busy and eventful year for the Border Roads to Memories & Reconciliation Project. We have met and engaged with 12 community groups who are assisting victims and survivors of the troubles. Visited and photographed over 170 border crossings and interviewed and recorded 70 residents who have shared their memories of what life was like for them while the border roads were closed.
We have facilitated 23 workshops which were attended by over 300 border residents from both communities North and South of the border, all who have their own stories and tales along the border roads to voice. The workshops enabled the participants to reflect on how their lives were affected by the road closures and how community’s changed and reacted together in response to the situations created by the troubles. We want to hear your story. Every individual story builds a little bit of history, and the history surrounding the Border Road Closures only the border residents can tell, so get in touch we would love to come and meet you and hear how your life was affected by the border roads being closed. For more information please don't hesitate to contact us.
