Membership Benefit Spotlight

Members Shared Calendar

Are you looking for more ways to learn from others on your continuous improvement journey? The Members Shared Calendar is a member-only benefit that allows you - members and member organizations - to enhance your Lean journey and give back to the Lean community through in-house activities that are already scheduled to occur. The more we share with each other, the more we all benefit.

As a member, you can attend in-house Lean trainings or events at other member organizations at no cost. You can gain knowledge and experience as well as provide feedback to your host. Check regularly to see what opportunities are available. You can sign up to participate by contacting the host organization directly.

I used the ILC Members Shared Calendar when looking for Lean & Continuous Improvement projects outside Lennox Industries, when I needed some professional development activities for new people in my group. I wanted something here in Iowa that would be engaging, challenging, and that would help develop the way we think about Lean. I found an event hosted by HNI, and it worked out great for us. The person we sent got to experience a Kaizen event facilitated by a Japanese consultant - a rare thing for us - and also brought back many ideas to challenge our way of thinking from her experienced at HNI. I highly recommend the use of the ILC Members Shared Calendar as a low-cost, convenient, hands-on training benefit for our ILC Members.  - Paul VanderKley, LBC Sr. Process Improvement Analyst Lennox Industries Inc.

As a member organization, you can obtain an outside perspective and strengthen the Lean community during one of your in-house Lean events. To share opportunities, provide us with the details (dates, location, training/event title) and we will put it on the calendar for you.  You can limit the number of ILC members who can attend and you have full control over who can attend. Most organizations hold 1-2 spots for ILC members for these in-house trainings or events and interested members must contact you to participate.

One benefit of offering training courses to ILC members we have seen at Pella Corporation is the diverse discussion that results from having a variety of people participate in the class.  It is easy to get stuck in our own organizations paradigms.  By having people in the room from various industries and roles in their organizations everyone learns more.  Since we are providing the training classes anyway, the extra work to have a few people from the ILC attend is minimal.   - Gina Singer, CI Manager, Pella Corporation.

Continuous Improvement in
Iowa and Ireland

Have you ever wondered how continuous improvement projects at your company compare to those in other organizations?  Are you curious about continuous improvement in Iowa compared to continuous improvement in another country, like Ireland?  Here is an opportunity to find out. Researchers Dan Bumblauskas of UNI, Brad C. Meyer of Drake, and Richard Keegan of Enterprise Ireland are doing a comparative study of continuous improvement activity in Iowa and Ireland.  They presently have information on 96 projects in Ireland and are now gathering information on projects in Iowa.

ILC membership offers a tremendous value by connecting you to companies, organizations and individuals using Lean to improve performance.

Membership provides free or  significantly reduced rate access to ILC events and more.

Whether you are just starting your Lean journey or have considerable Lean experience, you will find valuable learning opportunities that help you move forward in your journey.
