Action Alert – Reconciliation Support for Climate-Smart and Equitable Agriculture

We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to advocate for major investments in climate smart agriculture, such as on-farm renewable energy, agriculture conservation practices, research, and resilient supply chains, through a $3.5 trillion climate and infrastructure bill that Congress will pass using the budget reconciliation process.

Here’s how to take action before September 10:

•    Call or email your members of Congress in the House and Senate. To find your representative and their contact information, click here.

•    Call US Representative Abigail Spanberger on the House Agriculture Committee 202-225-2815

•    Share a letter with your representatives from the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition to leadership in Congress on reconciliation support for climate solutions and equity in agriculture

•    Send an email here!

Call script:

Hello, my name is ____ and I’m a ____ [farmer, parent, concerned citizen…] in the district. I’m calling about the budget reconciliation package. It’s critical that agriculture funding in this bill helps farmers address climate change and adapt to its impacts. Here are the specific investments I hope you will prioritize:

$30 billion for climate-friendly agriculture and working lands conservation programs
$5 billion for climate-resiliency-focused sustainable and organic agriculture research
$3 billion for value-added agriculture, on-farm renewable energy, and livestock processing
$10 billion for debt relief for producers who have not received a fair share from federal support programs

Thank you for your time!

•    Post this to social media to encourage others to contact Congress:

We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to get major federal investments in climate-smart agriculture. Congress is working on a major spending package for climate and infrastructure through budget reconciliation, and they need to hear from farmers and sustainable agriculture advocates to invest in renewable energy, on-farm conservation practices, organic and sustainable agriculture research, and resilient supply chains.
