Goodbye summer and hello school year 2020-2021!
Maybe you haven't started your new school year yet, but you will be soon, and we want to give you tools, resources and updates for HOSA to make it easier on you and your students. This may be a unique year, but our goals are the same; assist you in providing excellent health science curriculum.

In this week's episode of The HOSA Way with Mark and Sam, we share some fun challenges Michigan HOSA members can participate in this fall. The new state officer team is working on a competition for HOSA chapters to help members get involved, especially if they are not able to get together in-person. We will also host the 3rd Annual Gift of Life HOSA Challenge November 2-20, 2020. This will be similar to past years, but will be 100% virtual.

National HOSA has updated competitive event guidelines and they will be available on September 1st. Please be aware that there will be guidelines for competitive events specifically for virtual conferences, so those are the ones students should study for the Michigan HOSA Virtual Regional Conference on December 19, 2020.

The local advisor login for the HOSA Conference Management System (CMS) has finally been updated and has some new features for advisors that will be very helpful. Some of those include the ability to pay HOSA dues online with a credit card, see past, present and future conferences, and have access to conference online testing schedules that show if your student has/has not completed their competitive event test. Stay tuned for some updated tutorials explaining the new system and how to affiliate members and register for conferences.

The National HOSA Competitive Events Committee has launched some On-Demand Learning Opportunities for local HOSA advisors. These virtual advisor tools include mini lesson plans, PowerPoints, and videos for topics such as Project Based Learning, Career Exploration, History & Future of Medicine, Infection Control and more. These tools will assist advisors in making HOSA part of their curriculum while in a virtual setting.

Lastly, a reminder that all regional leadership conferences will be virtual this year. This is what we currently know:
  • ALL regions will compete on Saturday, December 19, 2020.
  • Regions will not be geographical this year, instead are evenly distributed by number of participants. A list of the 2020-21 Regions can be found here.  (No, these are not permanent regions. They are only for this year).
  • Events WILL look different! New event guidelines will be posted soon.
  • The cost for the virtual regional conference is $20 per competitor.
We wish you the BEST school year ahead. Please let us know if there is anything you need from us to make it even better.
