To the Burr Ridge Community,

This month, the Village of Burr Ridge unites with mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members in recognizing September as Suicide Awareness Prevention Month. We will share information and vital resources throughout the month on our social media channels. Please follow along there to learn more about ways we can all play a part in saving a life.

Monday, September 5th, marks Labor Day, which honors workers and recognizes their contributions to our society. Enjoy your three-day weekend! The following weekend, we look forward to two wonderful opportunities to come together as a community in the Village. On Sunday, September 11th, the Burr Ridge Community Park Foundation's 10th Annual Pedal the Parks fundraiser will take place, as will The Burr Ridge Village Center's inaugural Festa Ferrari event. And don't forget, September 22nd marks the first day of fall!

Fall on the horizon means the Taste of Burr Ridge & Annual Car Show is just around the corner! Returning for its second year, the event will be held on the Village Green from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 1st. Join us as we highlight and celebrate local restaurants and chefs through tastings and showcase a fantastic collection of cars.

We hope that the fall season of events brings much joy and excitement to you and your families.

Sincerely,

Mayor Gary Grasso

More Details On Public Meetings

Cop on a Rooftop

On August 19th, the Burr Ridge and Willowbrook Police Departments participated in the Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser. Taking their positions at Dunkin' donuts, they rallied support for Special Olympics athletes and raised $3,057.97 for Special Olympics Illinois. Thank you to our participating police officers and to our generous community and their families for helping raise these funds!

Employee Spotlight

The Finance Department recently welcomed Koula Michalopulos as the new Utility Billing Clerk. Koula joins us from the Village of North Riverside and brings her strong background in water billing and accounts receivables. Join us in welcoming Koula success in her new position!

Road Program Update

The majority of the Village’s Road Resurfacing Program wraps up this week, with only some landscaping and punch list items left. While this year’s program has experienced several setbacks, the result was worth the effort. The Village resurfaced over 8,000 feet (1.52 mi) of pavement and installed a new storm sewer along Woodcreek Drive.

Sewer Pipe Evaluations

The Village’s Inflow and Infiltration Control Program (IICP), to evaluate its sanitary sewer pipes for cracks and cross-connections, is beginning next week. The project area generally includes residential neighborhoods south of Village Center and east of County Line Road (excluding Burr Oaks Glen North and Savoy Club). The upcoming procedure includes cleaning and televising the sanitary sewer by lowering pressurized water jetters and a video camera into the sanitary system. The equipment crawls in sewer lines and records videos the Public Works Department can use to identify pipe defects, roots, and problem areas. The Village will use this information to plan improvements and repairs to our sanitary sewer infrastructure.

Resident Tree Orders

Join the Village’s reforestation efforts by ordering trees for fall planting in your yard through the Suburban Tree Consortium (STC). The STC comprises over 30 municipalities in the western suburbs that have banded together to take advantage of large-scale buying power. Trees are provided by Spring Grove Nursery of Mazon, Illinois, and quantities are limited!
