Two Spring Service Opportunities - Come Volunteer with fellow NCJW Utah Members
Please sign up to join us to support two important causes, as well as meet other NCJW Utah Members. The feedback our NCJW Utah Board received in the fall was that members wanted our section to provide opportunities to participate in serving others that were also a chance to socialize and be with other members/like-minded individuals.

We are happy to share these excellent opportunities to support:
Thursday, March 23 from 5 pm to 7 pm: We have committed to have a group of 15 volunteers help to set up for Project Homeless Connect. PHC is a one day event (Friday, 3/24) at the Salt Palace where people experiencing homelessness can be connected to hundreds of services, such as food, clothing, employment, legal support, housing info, and more! For more information and to do any additional volunteering, visit https://www.phcslc.org.
Sunday, April 30 from 9 am to 11:30 am: We have committed to have 10 volunteers help to organize the The Alex & Sally Lebwohl Food Pantry at Jewish Family Service. Since its humble beginnings in 2012 as a source of food for 85 JFS clients, the pantry has grown immensely in size and scope. As a member of the Utah Food Bank network of food pantries, many people rely on the JFS food pantry weekly. In 2022 alone, they supplied food to 4,696 individuals and families in need.

Jewish Day at the Capitol Wrap-Up

2023 Jewish Day at the Capitol, held on February 13, was led by Matthew Weinstein of Congregation Kol Ami’s Social Action Committee and focused on Homelessness and Social Justice issues. After several expert briefings on the issues, former Senator and Representative Patrice Arent discussed how to effectively lobby legislators. Several Legislative individuals took time to talk to us on these issues. President Stuart Adams and Senate Majority Assistant Whip Kirk Cullimore along with Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson joined us for questions.
Mike Mower, senior aide to Governor Cox, plus Representative Doug Owens and Senator Pitcher also were generous with their busy days to spend time talking to the group about current legislation and to answer inquiries. The group then spent time requesting time to talk with representatives and give them information about the issue of homelessness.
Mike Mower then took the group for a tour of the Governor's office, the situational room below the Capitol, and to see the earthquake stabilizers that were installed under the Capitol building. It was a very interesting and educational day. One recurring theme that was expressed by the Representatives was that the majority of people don't take the time to come up and/or contact their legislators. So those that do make the effort can make a big impact — good to remember.
