A C T I O N   A L E R T

OCTOBER 15, 2021
On November 2nd many of our cities will have a new way to vote called Rank Choice Voting.

If you are not familiar with how it works, here are two YouTube videos that will help you understand how and why we are using Rank Choice Voting/RCV

Watch this 2 minute 29 second video:
What is Ranked Choice Voting?
Watch this 1 minute 10 second video:
How does ranked-choice voting work?

Ballots should be arriving in the next few days.  Remember to vote.

Maps and Redistricting

Your input is needed ASAP

Every ten years, based on census information boundaries for voting districts are redrawn.

In Utah, the Voters passed the ballot initiative to have an independent Redistricting Committee  help in figuring out Communities Of Interest (COI).

The Independent Committee will propose maps to keep communities whole.  They need our input on how we define our communities of interest.  These maps will then be  used to help the Legislative body working on realigning these voting communities.  Better Boundaries, a Utah non profit organization has partnered with Representable to collect our independent maps and share this information on what we see as interests and needs in our communities.

This information will help the mapmakers take into account how we see our communities and avoid gerrymandering.  The State is required to consider COI.  So they need our input ASAP.

Go to:
https://www.representable.org/drive/map-your/

It doesn't take long to submit a map.  And the Representable site will walk you through the process.

Protect The Vote

Our Senators need to support FOR THE PEOPLE ACT-S 1

The House of Representatives passed the bill earlier this year.  The vote in the Senate was 50-50 deadlocked.  Our Senators need to hear our voices. Tell them to vote YES on For The People Act

Right now there are more than 60 bills restricting voter access in at least 18 State Legislators.  For The People Act would create National voting access.  It would address same day registration, early and vote by mail standards.  It would help modernize voter registration systems, and restore voting rights to formerly incarcerated individuals.

These are voting regulations that Utah has practiced for many years without issue.

We need to Call/Write our Senators and tell them we support this bill.

Abortion Access

Our members of Congress need to hear from us supporting the Equal Access To Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Act/EACH.
The Hyde Amendment denies abortion coverage to any woman that uses a Federal Health Program.  This means anyone enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance/CHIP will be denied abortion coverage.  This would also exclude abortion services to anyone in the Military, Federal Employees and their dependents, Peace Corp volunteers, anyone enrolled in Tribal programs and survivors of human trafficking.
These bans disproportionately harm people of color, those with disabilities, immigrants and LGBTQ+ individuals.
The Equal Access to Abortion Coverage /EACH would put a stop to these bans on coverage.  We need to tell our Congressman to support the EACH ACT and ensure equal access to abortion services  are there for everyone.
