"The Gita Nagari will be therefore the main preaching center of the Supreme Authority of Sri Krsna the Personality of Godhead. It shall be proclaimed from that place that Sri Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is the Absolute Enjoyer of all benefits derived from all kinds of works, sacrifice, cultivation of knowledge, that He is the Absolute Proprietor of all the material and spiritual worlds, that He is unalloyed friend and philosopher of all living entities namely the gods or the rulers, the general people, the beast and the birds, the reptiles, plants and trees and all other animals residing in every nook and corner of the great universes. When such knowledge will be fostered from the vantage of the Gita Nagari, at that time only real peace and prosperity will usher in the world so anxiously awaited by the people of the world." Conception of Gita Nagari, Srila Prabhupada, 1956
From Dhruva's Desk
We are thankfully in absolute bliss: the vibrant association of HH Bhakti Vasudeva Maharaj continues, sharing with us his perspectives and guiding us as he observes us here, and HH Devamrita Maharaj held enlivening, relaxed conversations every evening at the Institute House, inviting devotees to engage and serve together with increased enthusiasm.  It was wonderful to host Anuttama Prabhu - he has such refreshing experiences to share about the outreach and interfaith scene - very inspiring.
In the barn now, we have 5 beautiful little calves - 4 girls and 1 boy.  The last 2 little girls were born on Friday (21st) and Wed (26th) - both at night.  Fae and Tammy are the new Mommies - Fae's little one is 25 days premature, however she is doing very well according to our Vet, and Tammy's little one is strong and perky - ready to bounce around.  All the little ones are very playful and content and so are the Mommies, in the barn.
This weekend we get ready to observe the Disappearance Day Program of HH Bhakti Tirtha Maharaj, and some guests will be coming for the weekend.  Summer is always exciting and busy.  We are also gearing up for our upcoming Ratha Yatra (July 27th) and HH Radhanath Maharaj's Retreat: Absorption in Bhakti (Aug 9-11).  Our accommodation is practically booked out - if any of you would like to host devotees, please let me know (717-527-4101) and we can make some arrangements.  Daily rates for the retreat can be found here:
Please join in any way you can with the many activities here at the Farm.
Ortrun and Hemagaura prabhus will be at the Potomac Temple on Sunday, June 30t to sell Organic Ghee, Wildflower- and Locust Flower Honey.
Max' Garden Corner
I wrote last week about how ants will actually herd aphids onto plants.  In this picture, you can see this very phenomenon happening on a lambsquarters plant growing in one of our vegetable beds.  While this weed can often be a nuissance  (it grows everywhere and every plant produces upward of 75,000 seeds per season), it is both tasty and nutritious (being related to quinoa), and as is evidenced here can also act as a trap-crop to draw aphids from your veggies. (Also see  recipe to the right.)
Many plants that we see every day have untapped potential.  Dandelions have anti-carcinogenic properties, clover blossoms can be made into tea, any maple tree can be tapped for sap to produce maple syrup (not just sugar maple!), and there are literally thousands of native plants that have medicinal properties, or can be eaten.
To be continued next week.

Lambs quarters (sometimes seen as one word, lambsquarters) is a wild edible leafy green that usually appears in farmers' markets in early spring. As Max mentioned in last weeks Garden Corner it's a good substitute for spinach or chard without the oxalic bite and a great substitution or supplement to either in any recipes you find. Lambs quarters adds a soft, toothy crunch to salads, and can easily be blended into smoothies for a great source of vitamins.
