Welcome to 2017. A new year brings opportunities for change and challenges to make them successful. That’s why I’m so pleased to see continued growth in our community both in numbers and depth of application.
New Year brings a time of reflection and I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all our wonderful volunteers who make events happen, develop opportunities for members and of course work tirelessly in creating our communications, even this newsletter! I hope that new members see the potential of volunteering as an opportunity to enhance their own professional development as well as developing the way we experience change. I must give a thank you to the amazing board team, who give untold hours of their time to help the chapter stay true to course. See the note below if you are interested in becoming a volunteer with the chapter.
As we move into 2017, I know I shall connect with many of you at the many events we run and partner with. Do join me at the winter social and check out our partner events below.
Thank you for making ACMP Toronto Chapter such a great community to serve!

Interested in Volunteering?
We are currently looking for ACMP members to share their time and talent to support the ACMP Toronto Chapter as together we continue to advance the discipline of change management in the GTA.
to express your interest in joining our team.
Meet our Volunteers!
Featuring: Kaitlin Pianosi
Tides are shifting at the ACMP Toronto Newsletter headquarters as our long-standing "news guy," Rob Mencel (who we "met" last time in this column) is stepping down. We thought it fitting to introduce you to one of ACMP Toronto's rookies who will be joining the Communications Committee. Meet Kaitlin.
Kaitlin has previously volunteered with the membership committee, and the strategy task force. Outside of ACMP Toronto, Kaitlin holds a number of "gigs," most notably helping non-profits shift from ad hoc beginnings to full-fledged, functioning organizations, including volunteer management, strategy building, operations management, and HR policy.
We wanted to know more about Kaitlin, so we did some Q&A:
1. Best advice you've received in regard to change management?
"Frustration is the result of unmet expectations."
2. What hobbies/activities do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I play ringette and soccer year-round; teach robotic LEGO classes for kids; and I love, love, love board games!
3. What is the most interesting fact about you?
Other than robotic LEGO? My favourite sound is a street cleaning truck on a cool summer night.
The Change Leadership Conference
One of the biggest challenges facing organizations today is the increasing need to keep abreast of the rapid pace of change. Leaders at all levels are constantly being confronted by changes in the areas of technology, digital trends, customer expectations, data management, innovative practices etc. Alongside these changes are regulatory controls, environmental factors, and the need to carry along their teams.
With these rapid changes come the responsibility for leaders at all levels of the organizations to successfully lead their teams through these changes and complexities. As well as the need to create a culture that is able to respond to change better and faster.
Leading Change and Innovation in today’s fast-paced business environment will come down to three of these key success factors; Leadership, Culture and Responsiveness.
These success factors underpin the goal of The Change Leadership Conference by bringing together notable experts such as John C. Maxwell, award-winning and number one global leadership expert; and Jeremy Gutsche, also an award-winning innovation expert, and founder/ CEO of TrendHunter.
The conference also includes an expert panel sharing case studies, industry best practices, and valuable insights on leading change and disruptive innovation in their organizations, communities and marketplace.
The focus of this one day event is to introduce and reinforce leadership tools and innovative practices that participants can adopt to successfully lead change and innovation in today’s fast-paced business environment.

2016 ACMP Toronto Members' Survey - Your Voice is Heard
In December 2016 we conducted a membership survey to gather thoughts, ideas and sentiments to help the board plan for chapter activities in 2017. I am happy to report a 30% increase in response rate in comparison with the previous survey; a clear indicator that the chapter is both growing in number and in member engagement. So my first message to you is to thank you for taking the time to fill out the survey and for sharing your views.
Second, I wanted to note some of the survey findings that will inform our activities going forward. We are pleased to report that:
- 87% of the respondents feel that their expectations were met by chapter events. So if you haven’t joined us last year, we strongly encourage to attend some (or all) of our events in 2017
- 94% of respondents believe that the chapter provides a good opportunity for networking and building relationships with other OCM professionals. This is always one of our objectives and we are happy to see that it is being met. Change Management is a rapidly growing (and changing) profession, and we have always recognized the need for practitioners to connect and engage in professional conversation
- 70% of participants are requesting deep dives in topics related to Change Leadership and in understanding the resonance between “Change” activities and “Leadership” priorities.
- A majority of survey participants have also indicated that they would actively participate in an inter-chapter mentorship program both as mentors and as mentees
On January 20th
the board of directors of ACMP Toronto conducted an extended meting to discuss the survey results and to ensure that our plans for 2017 reflect the needs communicated by our members. So stay tuned for events, conversations, and activities that will closely fulfill your expectations.
Finally, I would like to thank you one more time for your engagement and I look forward to meeting you in person in future events.
