AVC launches new donation website

AVC now has a new website that makes donating to the College quick and easy. Supporters can click on Give to AVC on the front page of the College’s main website to go to the donation website.

Equine-assisted therapy helps people in palliative care

It’s not usual to see a horse in the parking lot of the PEI Provincial Palliative Care Centre—except when Billy, the Norwegian Fjord horse, comes to visit. Sixteen-year-old Billy is owned by Dr. Mary McNiven, professor of animal science at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC). For over three years, she has been bringing Billy to visit patients in the Centre.

AVC dean appointed to Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges

Dr. Greg Keefe, dean of AVC, has been appointed to the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges’ (AAVMC) board of governors as At-Large Director for Region II (Canada).

Dr. Larry Hammell appointed to independent expert panel on aquaculture science

Dr. Larry Hammell, Associate Dean (Grad Studies & Research) at the Atlantic Veterinary College and interim dean of UPEI’s Faculty of Graduate Studies, has been appointed to an independent expert panel on aquaculture science, led by Dr. Mona Nemer, Canada’s Chief Science Advisor.

Veterinary student Brian Blanchard awarded $75,000 scholarship

Atlantic Veterinary College student Brian Blanchard has been awarded a prestigious $75,000 scholarship by the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) Foundation.

Dr. Michael Cockram contributes to knowledge about animal welfare

Dr. Michael Cockram, Chair in Animal Welfare at UPEI, is contributing his knowledge and expertise to three important textbooks about animal welfare.
