Chamber Concert... Moscow born pianist Natasha Kislenko returns as soloist on Sunday, March 15, at 2pm to dazzle us with Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky favorites. Speaking about this program Natasha said “I love to program an all-Russian recital. I feel deeply connected to Russian culture because I grew up and got my fundamental training and musical education there. I can easily say Russian music is in my blood. Selections from The Seasons by Tchaikovsky I played first at a music school as a child, and later at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. To play the entire opus is like living through a year in 19th Century Russia with its peculiar customs, climate and people. The brief poetic epigraphs to each piece create either a scene, or a certain mood, or even tell you a story... While Rachmaninoff is one of the audience favorites, I will not need to tell much about his music except to mention that I will play pieces written in his American years. He immigrated to the United States in 1918 and remained there till his last day in 1943.”
Tickets sold only at the door: $15 general admission, $12 Art Center members and students. For further information, call 805-640-1158. www.ojaiartcenter.org/music

Photography Branch... We are thrilled to announce the return of the Photography Branch. Under the guidance of Steve Adams the annual photography exhibit will be May 8 to June 4. The theme is Contrast: Beyond Black and White. The theme of “contrast” goes far beyond black and white, to include a wide range of juxtaposed opposites. Contrast typically enhances differences that reflect into one another and create a new meaning. There are sensory contrasts such as color, tone, or texture; and conceptual contrasts, for example: new vs. old, rich vs. poor, raw vs. polished. The contrast may also be cultural, social, sexual or political.
Take in Tuesday, May 5, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. and Wednesday, May 6, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. For more information and an application go to the Photography Branch page.
