Back in 1936, Dr. Charles Butler had a dream – to bring the various  local arts organization together under one roof. Three years later The Ojai Art Center opened its doors. Eighty years later those original ideals and goals are still promoted. The Art Center continues to offer opportunities for people of all ages to come together to act, dance, play and sing, to write and recite, to photograph, to nuture youth talents.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY OJAI ART CENTER! The oldest continually operating non-profit art center in the state has turned 80! We will celebrate with a birthday dance party on Saturday, November 16, 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. Diane Miller and her rock'n’roll, rhythm and blues, soul, funk band will provide music. There will be refreshments and a no-host bar. The best part – FREE ADMISSION. Please join us!

Dr. Seuss is coming to the Art Center and bringing his friends. Seussical, a musical perform of the whole family, takes us into his world where we revisit beloved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and JoJo. The Cat in the Hat guides us into The Jungle of Nool where we see Horton, the kind hearted elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whoville.

A large cast will sing and dance their way into your hearts during the holidays. Directed by Gai Jones, produced by Herb Hemming.

Seussical opens November 22 and plays through December 15. Performances are Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m. Please go to or 805-640-8797 for tickets.

ART... In November 1939, The Ojai Art Center opened its doors for the first time and invited the community to come experience all that it had to offer – a place for theater, dance, music, and art. We are celebrating our 80th birthday with a special art exhibit and are inviting artists to participate in an open show with the theme “Celebration and Joy.” The art will be on exhibit throughout November and December. The reception will be Saturday, November 16, 7:30 p.m.  Call 805-646-0117 for more info.
FILM... We are thrilled to share our space each November with the Ojai Film Festival. The Ojai Film Festival chose the phrase “Enriching The Human Spirit Through Film” as its guiding principle, and each year, the Festival focuses on specific topics within that theme. Now in its 20th year, the festival maintains its artistic direction to show films that “enrich the human spirit by seeking out important films that in some way uplift people or help audiences feel good about being members of the human race or encourage them to live meaningful lives inspired by the examples of others.” Dates for the festival are November 1, 2, 3, 4, 9,10,11.  For a schedule and contact info go to
