The Carbon Literacy Project: Climate Change learning for everyone.

Welcome! The latest news from The Carbon Literacy Project...

"Climate change does not respect borders; it does not respect who you are - rich and poor, small and big. Therefore, it is what we call 'global challenges,' which require global solidarity."
~ Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations

CL at Heart of Staff Training

April’s Climate & Sustainability Strategy from the UK Department for Education announced the creation of Sustainability Leads across the sector – all of whom are to be trained in Carbon Literacy. These staff will lead the creation of Climate Plans and will be able to use a shared Carbon Literacy training kit to train their colleagues in how best to contribute to these plans. There will be a Sustainability Lead in every maintained nursery, school, college and university in the country.

10th Anniversary Story: 2015

Throughout our 10th Anniversary year, we’re sharing 10 stories for the 10 years of Carbon Literacy; one story for each year, shared once per month, in the 10 months leading up to the official anniversary date in October. For story number four, we’re heading back to 2015; the year Carbon Literacy gained global recognition as one of the top 100 responses the world has in order to tackle climate change. A chance meeting led Cynnal Cymru to become the official partner of The Carbon Literacy Project in Wales.

 Climate Change & Bees

We are launching a ‘Climate Change &’ blog series about the interconnectedness of climate change – with other environmental and social issues – to show how our work (and therefore yours) makes a difference far beyond emissions reduction. As a nod to the cultural symbol of our Mancunian roots, and to celebrate the beautiful blooms of spring this Earth Day, what better topic to start this series off than the brilliant role of bees.

 We're Hiring!

We are currently looking for a Local Authorities Coordinator who will help councils to reach their decarbonisation goals by engaging their staff in practical climate action. With a third of the UK’s carbon emissions directly influenced by Local Authority practice, policy or partnerships, Local Authorities have an essential role to play in the UK’s decarbonisation.

More info on the Local Authorities Coordinator role and how to apply is available here.

 Placement Opportunities

We have a range of exciting placement year opportunities for students spanning the academic year 2022/23. The positions vary from working within our core operations team, to alongside our sector leads. Internships enable students to become fully immersed in the workings of our small team.

More info on the broad array of opportunities available here.

 CC Myth Buster Tours Manchester

A magical machine made its way around Manchester during April! With large blinking eyes and an insatiable hunger to eat up climate change myths, the Myth Buster sparked conversations and delighted anyone who crossed its path. We had the opportunity to see the Climate Change Myth Buster in action at the first stop of its three-day tour in Hulme, Manchester.

Find out more about its mission and origin.

A UNIQUE PROJECT

The Carbon Literacy Project is a unique project, working with everyone who lives, works or studies, to offer a day's worth of training to the Carbon Literacy Standard. Once Carbon Literate, we have an instinctive understanding of the carbon impacts of our activities, are able to make informed choices, and, driven by the urgency, act positively to address climate change.

'Resource of the Month'

Created by NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio, this visualization shows global temperature changes per latitude zone from 1880 to 2021, illustrating that the Arctic is warming much faster than other regions on Earth; and exemplifies how global warming isn't uniform around the planet.
