Trainers, keep up the excellent work!
Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the Pioneers event in January, for those who couldn't make it here's a blog summarising the event, as well as the trainer top tips that came out of it. Pioneers is an opportunity for trainers to network, socialise and to hear about any news or updates that we'd like to share with you all in person. The next event will be held on the 29th of October, 2 - 4.45 pm, at Innospace in the Seminar Room; we hope you can make it. Included below are a few updates and reminders from us.

Resources Update
In October 2018, the IPCC released a report detailing the necessity to stay below the 1.5'C warming threshold, and some of the dangers of not doing so. We have complied some slides detailing the key take-home messages for the public, please feel free to use.

If you are conducting training in the Greater Manchester area, the 5-year Environmental Plan is a great discussion point linked to local learning, making sure it's fully engaged with during the course. Officially launched at the GM Green Summit in March of this year, the plan sets out the long term environmental plan for the area, including the pathway towards 2038 carbon neutrality.

If you choose to include a documentary/film in your Carbon Literacy training day as part of the climate science section, have you considered David Attenborough's latest collaboration with the BBC, Climate Change - The Facts? It presents a concise and up to date view of the science that we are currently working with, and exemplifies the need for more ambitious carbon neutrality targets globally.

If you're looking for a great video to inspire some significant individual actions, have a look at this short clip showing Christina Figueres give a quick rundown of top tips for a healthier environment.

Updates & Actions
✓ Last year, we updated our evidence form to include a question on how as a society we can achieve a zero-carbon Britain by 2038. This target, devised by the Tyndall Centre, focused on Greater Manchester, though is also applicable as a suggested advanced zero carbon target for the rest of the UK, above and beyond the national target. Since then, other cities and areas in the UK have set their own separate target dates for carbon neutrality. If you are delivering training in or near an area with a target date that is sooner than 2038, please feel free to use this more ambitious date in your form, as it may feel more relevant to your learners.

✓ When conducting a Carbon Literacy course, please try to take a photo. This could be submitted with evidence or included in a social media post with a link/tag to us - helping to show the range of Carbon Literacy training taking place.

✓ Sharing news of CL training is mutually beneficial for you as trainers and for The Project. The work you're doing is amazing and we want to keep sharing it with our community so please use our social media handles to tag us in any posts you do about training. Please also include all of our social media links during your training to participants so that they can connect with The Project. Here is a document laying them out. Alternatively, you may wish to write a blog to share your experiences with our wider network.

✓ Check out the hashtag #CLresource on Twitter for useful and topical resources which can be used during your training.

Here is a useful infographic which can be used during training sessions to display the 15% year on year reduction required to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2038.
The Pioneers Network
The LinkedIn Pioneers Network group was created to continue discussions and ask for advice and tips etc. outside of the Pioneers Network events. We've started a live discussion about how we can make the trainer network more connected and resourceful so get involved!
