Greetings! We've finished with our very successful program at the Blanton Museum of Art, and now it's time for our fourth program of the 2017-18 season!
We're going on an early spring break with "String Break!", an all-strings program curated by our phenomenal concertmaster Stephanie Raby!
We'll start in the early baroque with pieces for mixed consort (violin and viol family instruments) from Italians Girolamo Frescobaldi and Tommaso Vitali and work our way through England (Locke, Purcell, and Avison), Germany (Pachelbel), and back to Italy for a flashy concerto for four violins by the relatively unknown Giuseppe Valentini. Every member of the ensemble will appear as a soloist over the course of the concert, so there'll be plenty of variety!
The concerts will be Saturday, March 3 at 7pm in Austin (Redeemer Presbyterian Church, map) and on Sunday, March 4 at 4pm in San Antonio (Mission Concepción, map). Tickets are available at the door or through our website (link), and as always, there'll be an informal pre-concert talk beginning 30 minutes before each program. (NOTE: the Sunday performance was previously scheduled to take place in Fredericksburg; the San Antonio performance replaces that concert).
Also in March we'll be initiating a fundraising drive to get a head start on our 2018-19 season. Set to coincide with Early Music America's Early Music Month, the campaign will be called "What Can ABO Do for You?" (a riff on a certain shipping company's slogan). It'll be interactive, run mostly through our Facebook page (follow us here) where we'll be asking you, our fans, what we've done for you in the past that you've liked, and what you want us to do for you in the upcoming season and beyond, and what we mean to you and to the wider Central Texas community. Another goal is to convince everyone that every donation counts, no matter the amount. Crowd-sourcing is the wave of the future, and it's how we want to grow our donor base!
We hope to see you this upcoming weekend to kick off the spring with String Break!
