Dear ABO Family:
We hope everyone is continuing to be safe and healthy as we navigate what is our new reality. We're writing to you to give you an update on the status of our June programs.
Out of an abundance of caution, and because of social distancing measures currently in place in Austin and San Antonio, we have made the difficult yet perhaps unexpected decision to cancel Early Music Idol, originally scheduled for June 6 and 7. We are incredibly saddened by this turn of events and wish there had been a way to share this music with you, but we feel that even performing to an empty hall and broadcasting the concert would be too risky given that this program had a large vocal component.
A few audience members had already purchased tickets; we will be contacting those of you who did in the upcoming days via email regarding refunds.
We will be deciding in the next ten days about our April performance that had been rescheduled for July. As soon as a decision is made regarding that, we will let you all know.
These are difficult times for everyone, and nonprofit arts organizations are particularly vulnerable. This difficulty is amplified for smaller, younger organizations like ABO that do not have a large endowment or cash reserves yet built up, so we ask that you keep us in your thoughts as this crisis continues to play out. It is also a difficult time for our musicians, nearly all of whom have been put out of work since March. We can all use much of your moral support and as many of your positive thoughts as you can give!
We look forward to the next time we can all join together to enjoy the music that we all love so much. Please take care and stay healthy, and we hope to be together with you all as soon as is safely possible.
Musically yours,
Billy Traylor – Artistic Director & Founder
Stephanie Noori – Concertmaster
Hannah McGinty – Chorusmaster
Chelsee Sandaker – Ensemble Administrator
