Concert this Weekend! Join us!

Dear ABO Family:

We hope everyone's had a great week! We're checking in to remind you that the first concert  of our 10th season, Keeping an Ear to the Ground, premieres tomorrow, Saturday, September  19, at 7:30pm Central time. The concert will be available to ticket-holders exclusively for two weeks, so if you're busy on Saturday, there'll still be time to tune in! We'll be uploading the video to our YouTube page later today, including music by Vivaldi, Telemann, Handel, and more!

How does it work? Simply visit our website to purchase a ticket by following the link to the payment page and filling out the form, including a valid email address so we'll be able to send you the address for the concert. By midday on Sep. 19th, you'll receive the concert URL in an email, along with a link to the digital program.

It's no exaggeration to say that the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have left ABO in a precarious place. We're unable to perform publicly and our audience's response to paid online content is unclear. We've lost 56% of our City of Austin grant, our largest single source of funding. We're currently operating on the slimmest of budgets relying mostly upon our savings from inactivity earlier this year.

The only way for us to reach the light at the end of the tunnel is through your support – financially through purchasing online concert tickets and making donations (remember when we raised about $4k from donations of $50 and under?), and organizationally through telling others about us. Some of the music we perform is quite literally performed nowhere else in the country, or even in the world. We want to be able to continue to be there for you in the years to come – can you be there for us now?

We hope you'll join us for Keeping an Ear to the Ground! We very much missed performing for you in person, but we think our love for this music and the excitement we felt for being able to come together after so many months apart were palpable in the video, and we look forward to sharing it with you via the interwebs.

Musically yours,

Billy Traylor – Artistic Director & Founder
Stephanie Noori – Concertmaster
Cristian Cantu – Chorusmaster
Chelsee Sandaker – Ensemble Administrator

What's New With ABO

Lamentación y Esperanza

November 7 (tentative)

This year, instead of our annual performance of Latin American music we'll present a concert that is a commentary on our tumultuous year so far. This program of Iberian and Latin American choral music, recorded in historic Mission Concepción, will feature works with texts touching on themes of loss, sadness, hope, and renewal, reminding us of music's transcendent power to heal.

ABO is now on Spotify!

Over the summer we began uploading some audio from our archives onto the streaming service Spotify. With an audience from around the globe, Spotify will allow us to reach listeners from not only Central and South Texas, but thousands of miles away! Music that was performed for the first time in centuries for you can now be heard by music-lovers everywhere. We're also on YouTube – check out our profile for videos of French, Latin American, and early Italian music!
