The days are getting shorter and the air is getting cooler, and that means it's time for our annual performance of Latin American sacred music! For All the Saints is coming this weekend, and we hope you'll join us! We'll be in Austin on the evening of Saturday the 28th (7:00pm at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, map), and in San Antonio on the afternoon of Sunday the 29th (4:00pm at Mission Concepción, map, a UNESCO World Heritage Site). There is an informal pre-concert talk 30 minutes before each program.
This year's program focuses upon 18th-century works written for the various feasts and holidays of the church year. This includes major holidays such as Christmas and Pentecost, as well as lesser-known and regional festivals, such as the feast days of St. Cecilia, St. John the Baptist, and St. Ildephonsus. There was no dearth of music for feasts honoring the Virgin Mary, and we'll be performing a number of these as well, for the feasts of the Assumption and the Immaculate Conception.
The music will be drawn from archives in Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, Venezuela, Peru, and Spain, and three of the pieces we'll present to you have not been performed, to our knowledge, since they were composed nearly three centuries ago. There will be several others that will be Texas or US premieres as well.
Individual tickets are on sale here, and pro-rated season tickets will be available at the door.
Want to help us flourish and grow? There are many ways you can help, including serving on our Board of Directors, volunteering at performances, and hosting our out-of-town musicians. Simply email us for more information!
We hope to see you this weekend!
