Welcome to the Summer Edition of the AAW Art Newsletter. The Artist Residency on the East Coast was incredible! It was a productive month painting at the Pouch Cove Foundation and the exhibition afterwards at the James Baird Gallery was a resounding success.  Read on for announcements, new paintings and exhibition details...

In April I was awarded an invitation to The Pouch Cove Artist Residency in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Thanks to Nova Scotian artist Katherine Burns and the James Baird Gallery for including me in this once-in-a lifetime opportunity to paint the East Coast with a curated group of talented water painters.

Work from our month-long residency in May culminated in a group exhibition, “Water” at the James Baird Gallery, on May 28th, 2022, located on the northern tip of the Avalon Peninsula on the eastern edge of Canada.

Petley Jones Gallery presents:

October 7 - 28, 2022

A new collection of paintings that highlight the currency of water’s intrinsic value. Presenting the concept of water as more than a mere material asset, rendering perspective on decisions that trade pristine nature for economic gain.  A series of work that is simultaneously abstract and hyperreal, images of the sea and freshwater lakes, intricate compositions that vibrate with depth and motion. Dramatic colours, stylized ellipses, reflected patterns on glittering surfaces recreate the physics of water’s elegant flow.  These images move beyond water’s material worth, a transcendence that depicts this vital ecological entity as a substance of sheer beauty. Be transported to the water’s edge and experience the sea’s current.

Alcock-White’s paintings from 2016 - present, will be published in a book to coincide with the exhibition.  All proceeds will be donated to “Our Living Waters” A Canadian network working to improve freshwater health with over one hundred members such as WWF-Canada, The David Suzuki Foundation, Ocean Wise, Canadian Wildlife Federation, and Water Rangers.

A quote that will be included in the upcoming "Current Sea" retrospective art catalogue states:

A velvet touch encased in a determined hand. A focused and consistent vision of one of nature’s principle elements. Kudos to Amelia Alcock-White’s accomplishment." -- James Baird, Gallerist and Art collector, June 2022
