CLIMATE ACTION PLAN for the Eagle County Community

A group of over 30 Eagle Valley stakeholders has worked together since the beginning of 2016 to develop a Climate Action Plan for the Eagle County Community. The general public was invited to attend community open houses in September to learn about the draft Climate Action Plan and provide feedback. If you missed the open house you can still provide feedback, see below.
Where Our Climate Pollution Comes From

This chart shows where our Climate Pollution comes from
  • Data: Eagle County 2014 greenhouse gas inventory
  • Total = 1.4 million tons CO2 per year
  • $243 million per year spent on fuels and electricity

6 Questions with a Lighting Expert

How are Building Energy Codes Developed?
Maintain Heating Systems. Schedule for service as required to keep it operating efficiently. Replace furnace filters once a month, or as needed. CLICK HERE to learn about maintaining your furnace or boiler. Or, for maintenance recommendations for wood and pellet-burning appliance CLICK HERE.
Program the Thermostat. When using heat, program your thermostat to be 10-15 degrees lower when you are away and sleeping, at least 8 hours a day; it may save you around 10% a year on your heating/cooling costs. CLICK HERE to learn how to operate your thermostat for maximum energy savings.
Install a SMART ThermostatWhy? Because they learn from your behaviors and allow you to control the climate in your home remotely. They even show you energy consumption in real-time. CLICK HERE to view 2016 Top Ten Programmable Thermostats Reviews. Energy Smart Colorado will provide a rebate for your new SMART thermostat (if you've already had a home energy assessment with us). To qualify for our rebate it must have learning functionality, motion detection, and remote programming capability; limit one per customer, $125 cap. To apply online for a rebate CLICK HERE.
Prevent Heat Loss. As the snow begins to fall in the Vail Valley this winter take a look at your roof... Are there portions of the roof that hold snow and other areas that melt much quicker? This could be an indication of heat loss through your attic hatch or other penetrations such as can lights. This type of heat loss can cause significant ice damming through the winter as well as wasted energy.
