He is not the traditional professional civil engineer who is reserved and introvert and just wants to get on with the technical project! Manglin Pillay breaks the mould with his outgoing personality, creative energy, and his passion to encourage through verbal and written communication. In his spare time, he writes short stories, composes and plays music!

SAICE Mthatha NOT happy

SAICE President Stanford Mkhacane states that it’s important for members to understand the role played by the organisation in the industry as a whole, as well its commitment to collaborative efforts to addressing industry challenges. He further states that, “…civil engineers are not fully aware of the impact SAICE makes in all spheres of government, by being the voice of civil engineering in South Africa”.

Wits Students WOW judges at the Investigative Project (IP) presentation 2014

IP is part of the national curriculum for final year civil engineering undergraduate students. Wits final year students were paired into teams and presented their researched work which was conducted on selected engineering problems before an audience of faculty lecturers, professors as well as students and parents.  A panel of adjudicators, adjudicated the presentations according to a set of agreed criteria. 

Two South Africans shortlisted for UK engineering award

The United Kingdom’s Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) have shortlisted two South Africans for an engineering prize that recognises innovation in Africa. The shortlisted candidates will receive six months of training and mentoring from business and engineering experts. They will then need to submit a revised and comprehensive business plan for their innovation.  The winner will receive £25,000 (around R455,000) and two runners-up  £10,000 each (around R182,000).

The Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Conference – Call for PAPERS

The Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) under the auspices of the Southern African Federation of Engineering Organisations (SAFEO), will be hosting the EWB Conference from 30th April to 1st May 2015.  The conference will provide a platform to engineering researchers, educators and practitioners from both the academia and industry in the region and beyond to meet and share ideas and developments in the field of engineering. Prospective authors are invited to submit original articles that illustrate research results, projects, surveying works and industrial experiences.

ACHASM 'Client and Designer Lead Construction Health and Safety (H&S)' Symposium, Johannesburg, 23 October 2014

The symposium focuses on client leadership and designer contributions in the construction industry and the interface between clients, designers, and the respective stakeholders in terms of H&S. This focus will include the interface between clients, project managers, construction H&S agents, designers, quantity surveyors, and contractors.
