The Parent Corner featuring Sheri Perl Migdol, Mom of Danny, leader of our New York City affiliate group, author of 'Lost and Found, a Mother Connects-Up with her Son in Spirit' and the creator of The Prayer Registry.

Greetings to all my friends and fellow bereaved parents. I am happy to have this opportunity to introduce myself to you and to let you know about The Prayer Registry and how it came into being. Before I do, however, I want to state that I think it’s wonderful that we all have been brought together in this way! My gratitude goes out to Mark and Elizabeth for forming this large extended family of support that nourishes us all!
My name is Sheri Perl Migdol. I lost my son Danny on July 1, 2008, due to an overdose of alcohol and prescription drugs. He was 22 years old, a beautiful mountain of a kid with his whole life ahead of him, gone in an instant due to an error in judgment. Naturally, as you all understand, I was devastated. One of the first things that I did, however, was to send out a mass email to everyone I knew, informing them that Danny had passed and asking them to please send Danny a prayer.
Exactly one week later, in a reading with Medium Glenn Dove, Danny talked about “the prayer list “ and how the prayers from so many people that he didn’t even know, had helped to heal him. I was a little surprised. I had sent the email requesting prayers because I didn’t know what else to do. I didn’t really count on them making such a difference.  I was really happy to hear this!
As the first anniversary of Dan’s passing was approaching, heralded by the familiar hot weather that seemed to be swallowing up my air, I knew that we (my family and me) needed some kind of support to help us get through the dreaded day of July 1, 2009. We didn’t want to ask our family or friends to interrupt their work schedules to be by our side, yet we felt the need to do something.

When my husband Jerry suggested that we simply ask everyone to send out a prayer, the idea smacked of rightness. No one would have to take off from work, no one would have to travel, and no one would be put out. “That’s easy” I thought, and went about setting up a prayer team by sending out emails and making phone calls. By the morning of July 1, we had assembled quite an army of prayer-givers and they must have started praying very early that morning, because I woke up with less angst and sorrow than I ever thought possible. It was impressive to all four of us, for we all felt stronger and better for the prayers. As the day drew to a close, I began to think about how much the prayers actually helped us and what a wonderful thing it would be to open this up to others in the same way.

More than once since he passed Danny had come through to say that the energy from the prayers sent to him both lifted and carried him forward. It was clear to me that the prayers had helped us. It occurred to me then that I would have to find a way to set up a prayer team and organize a system for sending prayers to children on the other side, as well as their families here on earth on their passing dates.

The moment I had the idea, I felt wonderful about it. I knew instinctively that others would surely benefit, but how to go about it and how to set it up was an enigma to me. Fortunately, my son Aaron showed up one day and set up the entire website. The children’s names are printed onto their passing dates on The Prayer Registry Calendars and once inputted, the names remain on their dates year after year. The Prayer Registry sends out one-day reminders before each child’s Prayer Date to the entire Prayer Team, so that everyone is kept informed of who is due for prayer. The Prayer Site has both audio and written prayers posted daily for the children being held-in-prayer that day. The Prayer Team is made up of all the parents who have registered their children and they are a strong and beautiful band of parents who are dedicated and committed to the cause of praying for each and every child who is registered, and their families as well.

Each member of The Prayer Team prays in their own corner of the world, in whatever way is natural to them. The Prayer Registry is an interfaith organization. All faiths and beliefs are welcome and all people are respected. We are mothers and fathers from all over the globe who have lost one or more children. Our religions and backgrounds vary, but our intention is the same: To send loving, healing energy to the spirits of our beloved children and their families. Each of the children and their families are the focus of this mass prayer every year on the Prayer Date of the child. Sometimes we have eight children being held-in-prayer on the same date, so we send out our thoughts to all of them and to all of their families as well.

When I think about it, it’s the least we can do and the most we can do at the same time, for it takes only a moment to send a prayer, but it actually penetrates the veil and lifts up our loved ones! To know that there is actually something positive that we can still do for our children who have passed, affords us parents a quite a bit of solace.

I would like to invite all of you who are not already members of The Prayer Team to join us in our mission to support each other and each other’s children-in-spirit through prayer. To register your child send the full name as you would like it to be printed on The Prayer Registry Calendar and the passing date to: I will get back to you to let you know how you can find your child’s name  on the calendar and give you additional information at that time.

As I often say, loss is not a club that any of us would have joined by choice, but since we find ourselves here, in this situation of outliving one or more of our children, it is good to stand side by side. It makes us all grow stronger.

May all healing blessings be with you,

Would you like to share a story of validation or healing with other Parents?
We are all able to heal when we share personal stories about our children with others.  Moreover, everyone benefits from validations that we receive from our children.  We love to hear about them!  If you have a story that you would like to share about your child, please let us know and we will include it in a future newsletter.  Please send it to Elizabeth Boisson at  (Due to space limitations, please \be sure it is no longer than 1/2 page.)

Mark Ireland, Co-Founder of Helping Parents Heal, has recently published a new book that is now available at Amazon.  I have found his books to be wonderfully healing.  Please read below for more information and helpful links about the book from Mark:
After my first book, Soul Shift, was released it became apparent that there was a need for information pertaining to evidence supporting the possibility of an afterlife. Bereaved parents indicated that the book was a “life preserver” and some even told me that they had shelved suicidal thoughts after reading it. Messages from the Afterlife, continues with the same personal narrative, including experiences evidencing the afterlife, but that is where the similarities end. Messages is a more multi-faceted book, endeavoring to educate readers about afterlife evidence—especially mediumship. One professional reviewer, Jane Katra, PhD, used the term “scholarly book” when describing Messages. My goal was to convey complex information to the layperson in a clear, relatable, and credible manner.

Mission statement

Our mission is to help parents who have lost children, giving them support and resources to aid in the healing process. We will go a step beyond other groups by allowing the open discussion of spiritual experiences and evidence for the afterlife, but in a non-dogmatic way. In other words, we will welcome everyone regardless of their religious (or non-religious) background and allow for a very open type of dialog.
