Welcome to the October issue of our Helping Parents Heal Newsletter!  Christine, Elizabeth, Morgan, Alix and Cyril Boisson/At the Base Camp of Mount Everest in Tibet, spreading his angel wings the day before he transitioned

Hello, Shining Light Parents!

This month marks exactly ten years since my beautiful son Morgan transitioned at the Base Camp of Mount Everest in Tibet from severe altitude sickness, on October 20th, 2009. I was able to speak to Morgan by telephone as he was undergoing CPR after he had stopped breathing.  I told him that we loved him, we were proud of him, and not to be afraid.  At that instant, I felt him hug me from the inside.  I immediately knew that Morgan was not gone and that love lives forever.

At that time, I tried to find a parent group to help me heal and to move forward, knowing that Morgan was with me every step of the way.  Unfortunately, none existed.  I started the Helping Parents Heal Facebook group (at that time called Parents United in Loss) a week after Morgan passed and began to meet other parents who knew and acknowledged that they were also receiving signs and validations from their children.  Our group began holding meetings in January, 2010, and Mark Ireland was our first guest speaker.  Two years later, in March 2012, Mark and I joined forces to create the nonprofit Helping Parents Heal, Inc.  With the help of current and former Board Members, including Doryce Norwood, Dr. Mark Pitstick, Ernie Jackson, Irene Vouvalides, Jason Durham, Jeff Hollahan and Brian Smith, as well as our admins: Laurie Savoie (secretary), Theresa Wettstein (accountant) and Celia Cheves Edwards, we have grown and have been able to help many more parents.

Plus we now have almost 100 affiliate groups and leaders, guided by our Affiliate Directors, Dawn Richards and Mary Bertun. These include our Online group with Brian Smith, Tracy Soussi, Tywana Smith and Beth West, as well as many special-interest groups such as Helping Fathers Heal run by Mike Edwards, Helping Siblings Heal and many more, helping to heal thousands of parents.  Our Helping Parents Heal - Main Facebook Group currently counts over 12,400 members.  Plus we have wonderful international affiliates in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Linda McCarthy has done an amazing job guiding the Caring Listeners, a group that was spearheaded by Dr. Mark Pitstick.  And we have had enormous support from the Afterlife community, initially through Susanne Wilson and Suzanne Giesemann and later from so many others.   As Susanne Wilson says, Morgan has been one of my greatest teachers. I feel humbled to have collaborated with him since January 2010. Morgan showed me exactly how the children in Heaven band together to help their families on Earth meet one another. The families become friends who, together, celebrate this wonderful greater reality: love lives forever!

In closing, it must be said that Irene Vouvalides' courageous, groundbreaking idea to hold a First Helping Parents Heal Conference in Scottsdale, AZ in April 2018 that drew 500 parents was one of the most far-reaching, healing milestones that Helping Parents Heal has accomplished.  Jason Durham also provided wonderful graphic art and support for the conference. And our Second Helping Parents Heal Conference in Charleston, SC in April 2020 will be even better!  It is almost sold out.  If you have not yet registered, please be sure to do so!  We would not want you to miss this supportive, uplifting event.

Our kids are not gone!  They walk with us every day and are our biggest cheerleaders.  They are now 'home' and we are still 'in school'.  Although Morgan passed 10 years ago, we continue to receive signs from him.  Please see my most recent validation with Morgan on the right-hand column!

We are grateful that you have found us.  This newsletter is a space that allows us to share our amazing children. We are all in this together.  We understand and we walk the same path. Thank you for your compassion and for the constant support you provide.  Together, we will help each other heal!

With love and light,
-Elizabeth Boisson, Proud Mom of Morgan, Chelsea, Alix and Christine, President and Co-Founder of Helping Parents Heal, Newsletter Editor and Phoenix/Scottsdale Affiliate Leader

Numbers from Heaven by Susanne Wilson, the Carefree Medium
Susanne Wilson

Numbers from Heaven

I have it on good authority that guides, angels, and beloved spirit people and pets all enjoy sending numbers to their beloved living people. The numbers are themselves a friendly reminder that those in spirit who adore you are continually helping behind the scenes.

If you’re keeping a journal, keep track of the numbers that catch your attention. Which numbers do you see over and over, and where do you see them? You might see the numbers on a clock or watch, or on vehicle license plates, or the grocery store receipt, or your amount of cash back from a purchase, maybe even your hotel room number, and so on.

Numerologists seem to believe that 1111 is a “master number.” Simply stated, in numerology the number 1111 refers to a strong potential for the manifestation of change and perhaps even enlightenment.

However, seeing 1111 has a completely different meaning for one of my online intuition development students, Shannon. Whenever the number 1111 catches her attention, Shannon knows that her son and her husband in spirit are saying hello! You see, her son was born on the 11th day of a month, and he transitioned to the spirit world on the 11th day of another month. But there’s more! Shannon and her husband who is now in spirit celebrate their wedding anniversary in November, the 11th month of the year.

Sometimes the numbers that capture your attention are special dates, such as birthdays or anniversaries, or a loved one’s time of their birth or their passing.
Here is one of my favorite examples!

Celia Cheves Edwards, a shining light parent, receives the number 221 every day. She spontaneously awakens during the night to see that the clock says 2:21 am. In the afternoon, her attention is drawn to look at the time precisely at 2:21 pm. This number is significant because Celia’s son in spirit, Jeff Rivera, was born on February 21st. Celia shared with me that while she was gambling at a casino, Jeff proved that he was there having fun, too! Celia sent me a photo of the slot machine which showed that her winnings were exactly $221.75. Can you guess the year of Jeff’s birth? That’s right! Celia’s wonderful son Jeff was born on February 21, 1975, or 2.21.75.

Whenever you receive a new number repetitively, I recommend that you trust your intuition to interpret its meaning. There isn’t necessarily a one-size-fits-all discernment for the meanings of the numbers that spirit chooses to send us. This is why earlier I recommended that you maintain a journal, so you can identify patterns around when the numbers show up. You are the best-qualified person to interpret the meaning of any signs that you receive. You can trust your own heart.

Think of repetitive numbers as text messages from Heaven. And, when you receive your numbers, please remember to say “thank you.” Spirit has your number!

Dr. Mark Pitstick and his book 'SoulProof'

Evolved Souls Don’t Need Long Earthly Lives
October 2019
by Mark Pitstick, MA, DC

To all parents, I am very sorry about the physical death of your child.  However, I am glad you are open to learning how to heal and transform.  Six key understandings to making that shift are:

1. Your child is alive and well in another phase of forever.

2. Only his physical body died.  Everything else continues eternally: all the love, light, energy, humor, personality, memory, energetic and subtle bodies, and much more.  Really knowing this allows you to journey from seeing yourself as a bereaved to a shining light parent

3. She is happy, peaceful, and enthusiastic – and wants you to be that way now.

4. You will see her when you pass on and can enjoy relationships with her now.
5. You can choose to transmute your grief into a spiritually transformative experience that powerfully improves your life and blesses others.

6. You can heal and increase the gifts from his life by lovingly serving others
Many parents have realized this great news and are living happy and fulfilling lives again.  You can do the same.  It’s not easy and doesn’t happen overnight, but it is possible with small steps day by day.  Here are five action steps . . .

  1. Attend local and online Helping Parents Heal (HPH) meetings
  2. Call The Caring Listeners to talk at no charge.
  3. Read relevant Foundational Articles for Healing & Transforming on and take action steps
  4. Listen to my free Radio Shows and our answers to life’s toughest questions including why children die.
  5. Lean on others then later, when you are doing better, pay it forward
Instead of my usual Q & A, I wanted to share a heartwarming and inspirational message.  Bernie Siegel MD and I have been in contact for over 25 years.  He wrote the foreword to Soul Proof and was a guest on my radio show three times.  I consider him to be a pioneer in the fields of consciousness, after-death communications, and living with love and laughter.  Bernie emailed me and shared that his grandson Jason had recently passed on and was making his continued presence quite clear.
Bernie’s daughter Carolyn – Jason’s mom – shared this photo of Jason at Disney World, via the Make a Wish program, telling Santa what toys he wanted.  She shared some wonderful examples of Jason’s visits after changing worlds.  Here are some highlights . . .
  • Jason passed on at age 22 due to an enzyme deficiency that made his body produce excess lactic acid.  Children with this condition often pass on near birth.  Jason was the oldest living person in the world with this condition, but it impaired his mental development and required feeding tubes and intensive medical care.
  • Before Jason’s earthly body died, he could see people who had passed on.  When the minister/rabbi would visit and share a prayer, Jason would say: ‘Let’s pray for the ones that are in heaven too.’
  • Doctors and nurses stopped by Jason’s room to visit because, in their words, he cheered them up.  He never saw himself as sick; his gift was making others laugh.
  • Bernie’s long-time friend Monica, who is a medium, contacted him to share how Jason was doing in the next part of forever.  Bernie called Carolyn’s phone and left a voice message about this while, at the same time, Carolyn was asleep dreaming that Monica was talking to Jason.
  • Bernie shared: the letters JASON appeared vertically on my computer screen; I can’t account for how that would happen.
  • Pennies appearing, clocks stopping at the time of Jason’s passing, slot machines spelling his name, and more.  These signs lighten their grieving and help them know Jason was – and is – a special person who didn’t need a long period of earth-school.  Bernie and Carolyn plan to write a book to share these blessings and insights with others.
The physical death of your child will likely be the most difficult change and challenge you will encounter.  However, accounts like this help you remember they are special souls who just came to earth for a while to remind us what is important.  Take heart from Jason’s signs and your own that life and love are forever.
Hugs, love, and blessings,

Fellowship and Coincidences
Ernie Jackson and Kristine Jackson

Now what do we do, after our child has transitioned?  We weren’t prepared; we didn’t even know this was possible.  Maybe we thought things like this only happened to other people, not to us and our families.  But, here we are.  Now what?

There is nothing easy about it, but here we are.  First, know that you are in the right place.  I implore you, please do not try to go through this alone, especially if you are a father.  As fathers, we think we are so strong and believe we must be strong for others, but strength has absolutely nothing to do with grieving or facing a new reality.  The fellowship of others who have experienced this path is more helpful to our way.

Process and purge the shock, pain, sadness, and rage.  As you do, if you haven’t already done so, try to open the door to seeing and noticing more of what is happening around you.  This is the mindset I found myself in.  My world had been turned inside out and upside down as the ground was ripped away. In that place, oddly, my perception was heightened and I became more alert in the silence; I began noticing “odd” things happening around me.  I am eternally grateful to our son and my guides who quickly helped me to recognize and acknowledge that what I was experiencing were signs from Quinton.  Those signs illustrated so wonderfully that he IS alive, well and loving on us.  This is what we want for you.  We wish for all of you to come to the understanding that dead people don’t send us signs, only the living do.  This is a big step and once you take this step, now what?

The answer to the question is another question: How far down the rabbit hole are you willing to travel?  There is no correct or incorrect answer, however, are you ready to own the knowledge that you are acquiring?  Are you ready to walk the path your child has set you upon with his/her transition and subsequent visits via signs, messages sent directly to you and/or some of the wonderful mediums that parents from HPH recommend?  What are you going to do with this knowledge that because our children illustrate to us that they are eternal (nobody dies), it also follows that we are eternal and that we remain in physical form for a reason – all of us do.  How does embracing this rather simple truth impact your life?

While it may be a simple truth, how this knowledge impacts our day to day thoughts and actions is a bit of a different matter.  Again, no right or wrong, as all of us are on an individual journey with individual soul plans.  I am told, if I am indeed a teacher of sorts, I am most effective in sharing what I am experiencing. Moreover, when Quinton transitioned and began visiting, I wanted to share his visits with the world; I wanted to shout it from the mountaintops – look, my son lives, there is no death, we are eternal.  In effect, I wanted to save the world from its misery and sorrow as so many compete and fight for love, resources and material wealth.  Knowing we are eternal can provide us with a much larger view of our time here and may help us to shift our focus to what in our lives we may struggle with and can take this time to focus on. This has truly been a paradigm shift, but alas, I can’t save the world.  So, I try this again (how many lifetimes now), I become quiet and in the stillness, try to save myself and ultimately find a level of peace that I haven’t known in lifetimes, certainly not this one.

The point of this rambling is that our remaining time here does have purpose, whether that be overcoming addictions, helping others in some way, connecting more deeply with a higher power (God, The Divine, Source, The Universe, Great Creator), being part of the healing of this magnificent planet that has been created for us to experience life more fully…I could list a multitude of possible reasons for our time left here on earth after our loved ones have gone home and they are all valid.  The point is, each of us remain here for an individual purpose, which unites us.

Our children who have transitioned unite us.  In this time when the forces of the world are attempting to divide and separate us, our kids unite us in the Light.  And in the Light, we can Become the Light; we can Become the Light of the world.  You may believe that this is overreaching. but I think not…We are the Light, as we interact with and reflect off of every person that we touch.

I wish you all the best and feel free to contact me if you have questions.  Dialogue is good.  Each of us is both teacher and student.

God Bless and Namaste, Ernie-Quinton’s Dad

New Group! Helping Parents Heal - Spokane, WA to Post Falls, ID

Kami Carlton and her Son, Trent

Please join me in welcoming Kami Carlton, who will be leading a group from Spokane WA-Post Falls, ID.

More about Kami:

As all too many know, grief is as individual as grains of sand. I lost Trent, my only son, on August 19, 2018, just 11 days after his 17th birthday. On Earth, he was an old soul with a huge heart, always eager to help others, as he is in spirit now. Trent’s suicide is where my grief journey began, but thanks to Helping Parents Heal, this is not where I am stuck. I know being a Shining Light Parent is a title I’ll carry with me until we meet again. Due to the wealth of information, shared experiences with other parents, featured speakers, Caring Listeners and so many other tools available 24/7, I have not only begun to heal but am thriving and growing and you can, too! I have witnessed firsthand the healing and spiritual growth that can come from joining Helping Parents Heal, which is why I feel called to give back.

New Group! - Helping Parents Heal - Los Angeles

Dolores Cruz, Lin Dobie and Ana Esquivel

Please join me in welcoming Dolores Cruz and Lin Dobie of Helping Parents Heal - Los Angeles.
Dolores Cruz:

My name is Dolores and I am the mother of 4 children – Nick, Jessica, Vanessa and Eric. Our youngest child, Eric, transitioned at the age of 24 in May of 2017 as the result of an automobile accident. As you all know from experience, we were devastated and lost. We had no idea how to go on with our lives. By a “coincidence” I was contacted by a cousin of a cousin who I didn’t even know, who told me about Helping Parents Heal. This amazing organization changed my life. I found my way out of the dark hole I was in, and found hope and healing. I remain connected to Eric through the many signs he sends, which I learned to recognize through the many members of HPH who share their connections as well. I can’t imagine where I’d be without this wonderful healing group.

Lin Dobie:

My beautiful and oldest son, Ryan, crossed over February 25, 2019 unexpectedly and tragically at the age of 26. He had a huge heart and was loved by so many. This loss shook me to the core and awoke such a deep spirituality in me that I didn’t know existed. Previously, I studied (more like dabbled in) reiki, meditation, yoga and energy work. Now I long to know with every cell of my being that my son carries on in spirit and promised him and myself that I would learn how to thrive and find joy again in my life despite my biggest and most devastating loss. This is what led me to HPH. This is my tribe.

The closest HPH group to me was in Ventura, a couple of hours away. I have found that the individuals that support HPH are uplifting, hopeful and helpful individuals that have given me hope that I will once again thrive in my life. I am embarking on the start-up of an HPH group in my area in order to help myself and others become shining light parents by collectively supporting each other and participating in various healing methodologies.

Ana Esquivel:

My name is Ana Esquivel. I have two beautiful children-Alessandro, and Isabella, 16. My world was forever changed when my son transitioned on October 20, 2019. His transition to the other side was due to an accidental cliff fall in Isla Vista. He was a sophomore at UC Santa Barbara. He was a very intelligent young man, not a good student like he said, but smart, intelligent! But as he said to me in a recent reading “mom this was meant to happen like this” I miss him so much, but I am at peace knowing he is back home safe and happy, doing the things he likes and trying new things. In the meantime, while I wait to be reunited with my son, I am trying to ride the waves of grief the best I can by reading and learning about the afterlife and to look for signs my sons sends my way. I don’t want to be seen as a bereaved mother but as a shining light mom, one my son would be so proud of.

New Group!  Helping Parents Heal - Thunder Bay, Ontario
Jacqueline and her beautiful children

Please join me in welcoming Jacqueline McGuirk, who will be holding meetings in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

More about Jacqueline:

My name is Jacqueline McGuirk. I am a single mother to three wonderful young adult children, Andrea 27, Sean 19, and Justine 17, who transitioned together on December 30, 2005, in a tragic car accident. They were on the way to the small town where the funeral of my mother was to take place the following day. The next morning, I heard Andrea’s voice calling Mom over and over. I knew then that they were must still be somewhere in the universe.

I was distraught for a long time and needed a lot of help to learn to cope without my children. I have had many signs and several mediumship readings over the years but was still really struggling. In 2018 I found Helping Parents Heal online and attended the first conference. Finding a group that embraces the belief that our relationship with our children continues after they transition, has allowed me to begin to embrace life again. I attended a wonderful affiliate group in Ottawa. I have just moved back to Thunder Bay and am hoping that beginning a group here will help other parents in my area begin to heal.

New Group! Helping Parents Heal - Maui
Susan Ward and her daughter Julianne

Please join me in welcoming Susan Ward Susan will start holding meetings in Maui at Unity of Maui

More about Susan:

Our worlds can be shattered in a moment, one phone call, one diagnosis, one last breath. We know that a parent’s grief is unlike any other. My heart exploded into thousands of shards of glass. I don’t know how I would have survived those first years without loving support.

My precious daughter, Julianne, gained her angel wings at 44 after a valiant fight against breast cancer. She constantly gives me signs that she’s still close. Within the hour after her death, in the depth of my pain, I heard her say, “Mom! You know better!” She’s right. I know that death is only a thin veil between here and the dimension of unconditional love and joy. She has said, “Talk to me, Mom, there are things we can do together.” After 5 years, I’m ready to accept my new “assignment”, bringing HPH to Maui. I know that Julianne and I are doing this together. Please come. Let’s share our stories and mutual support.

New Group!  Helping Parents Heal - Rhode Island
Elizabeth Alvarez and Allie, Laurie Ranaldi

Helping Parents Heal - Rhode Island has already held its first meeting in October!  From Elizabeth: We had our 1st meeting last night and it was wonderful! We were a small group of 7, but we all were able to share (we had a mom who wasn’t quite ready to share her full story but by the end, she was telling us about her experience with a local medium).

The weather was atrocious but we are tough New Englanders and are used to weathering the storm and were not deterred in coming out to participate in our 1st meeting. Anyhow, we are all looking forward to our next meeting in November so we can help each other deal with the upcoming holidays.

Please join me in welcoming Elizabeth Alvarez and Laurie Ranaldi of Rhode Island! Please read more about Elizabeth and Laurie below:

More about Elizabeth:

My name is Elizabeth. My only child, Allie, transitioned on January 2nd, 2017 from a sledding accident. She was 17. There is no greater pain than to have your child die. I was a member of another grief group, here in Rhode Island, but it didn't resonate with me. I found Helping Parents Heal Online and it has helped me tremendously. I used to think that there was a possibility of life after death, but now I know without a shadow of a doubt, that we are spirits having a human experience, and as such we never die. I have had far too many signs and synchronicities to think otherwise. Growth and healing come when we share our experiences with other like-minded people. As a Shining Light Parent, a term coined by Suzanne Giesemann, I would like to help 'light a path' for other grieving parents and offer a safe space where they can openly share their journey along this most difficult path, as well as offer support and hope for healing.

More about Laurie:

On November 16, 2015, my son and only child Gian transitioned from this earth. I often struggled with explaining the overwhelming calmness I felt within the days after being given the news he was "Gone".. I knew he was close, so very close. I knew he could hear me and felt his presence by my side. I began speaking to him (the first time as I sat by his casket) and never stopped. I kept telling people that HE is the reason I am functioning, that there is no way I am doing this alone. It was the strangest thing for my lips to speak (because I feared death my entire life)... but I kept saying it because I believed it. My heart knew that there was something else beyond this earth, and he was there! Since then a series of events ( all spirit-guided) as well as loving, supportive people led me to HPH where I would like to continue my earthly journey, to learn, to grow and to help others.

New Leader!  Helping Parents Heal - San Diego
Dawn Richards, Catalina Flores and Laurie Clements of the San Deigo Affiliate

Please join me in welcoming Laurie Clements, our newest San Diego Affiliate Leader who has a member of the group for the past year!

More about Laurie:

My beloved only son, Hans, transitioned from this physical life on Aug. 5, 2014 after a lifetime of internal struggle that just got too much for him.  He died by suicide.  Shock, overwhelm, sadness and grief over this sudden change in our lives without our son, my husband Jeff and I struggled to make sense out of an event that we couldn't understand.  Our deep faith and our Unity community truly sustained us in those early days, weeks and months.  We attended Kriya yoga retreats and I finished my Reiki Master training that I had started shortly before Hans' transitioned.  In looking for LONG TERM support though, I found Helping Parents Heal by listening to a podcast on Unity online radio where Suzanne Geisemann was a guest.  After listening to her share how our children are so willing and eager to communicate with us STILL, I searched and found this beautiful chapter of HPH here in San Diego.  I'm happy to be part of a group that are supporting one another in continuing to grow and expand to be the best version of ourselves despite this tremendous "loss". And to do that  WITH the eager willingness and love of our children along with Spirit.

Of course, neither of them expected it explode into the group it is today.

Mark then went on to discuss his book, Soul Shift.  His son, Brandon, transitioned in 2004 from an asthma attack while hiking close to their house. In the book, Mark talks about his journey as he, wife Susie, and son Steven come to grips with their new reality, along with validations they received from Brandon. Mark also talks about his own father who was spiritually gifted and what life was like growing up with him. Thank you to all of those who came out on a Sunday night to welcome Mark and Susie Ireland.

Helping Parents Heal - Coldwater Creek
Louise Crist

We had a great meeting on Monday, September 23 in Coldwater, Michigan as we remembered our beloved children. Fifteen came to the meeting, including four dads/grand-dads, which is awesome, because we all know that no two people grieve the same way. It's nice to see both male and female coping mechanisms, and what a great way to support each other!

Here are some of the take-aways from our meeting: We talked about our children a lot. We trouble-shooted some potential (likely) scenarios/triggers that may come as we go into the holidays, such as family traditions, giving gifts FROM your child in spirit to their siblings left behind. I can't stress enough, you have to teach people how to treat you! They don't have a clue! You didn't either until you went through it yourself. Teach them that it's okay to talk about your child. Warn them that you might cry, and it's's not their job to fix it.

That's what this group is about. Supporting each other as we balance walking here on earth with those still here, and also in the next world with our children that went ahead of us. That balance can take a while to learn!

We talked about "seasons" a little bit. There's the holiday season coming up, but there is also your own personal season. Your season begins a few days or weeks ahead of an important date, like a birthday or anniversary. Grief is a powerful force. We get a little more withdrawn, drawing the pain of missing our loved ones into ourselves and cradling it with all the extra love we have stored up for them. At some level, you start the countdown..."XXXX years ago this week, we were doing _______________. Or this is the last time he/she did__________. The anniversary of the death is especially hard, and one of those things even WE really don't have the words for. "Happy Anniversary?"(For our loved ones in spirit, maybe, but for me...not so much.) "Thinking of you?" (much better.)

Or maybe it's a birthday. How do you spend all that love that you saved up since his/her last birthday? It's so hard not to be able to buy them a present. You might not want to get out of bed that morning. Whether you stay in bed all day and cry, or go out with some unexplained burst of energy and build bunk beds for homeless kids in your child's honor...either way is okay! Please know that we are here for you throughout the year.

We may do a potluck in December and at least once every four months have a weekend afternoon meeting for those who can't make the usual weeknight meetings. This was our third meeting, and I think we are all getting the hang of it!

Other suggestions from the October meeting: *Relax your body, 2 deep breaths, ACCEPT rather than EXPECT, FIND YOUR PEACE *Pause, listen and be patient, experience, listen…and ACCEPT :-) *Have a session w/ a Shaman *Journal without expectations *Karen Noe: “praying is talking to God and the angels – but meditating is listening to them.” Please click
here. *Don’t be so focused on getting one specific sign that you miss other signs. *There are no small signs, every sign is awesome because they are all LOVE. *When you get a sign and wonder if there is some additional significance, STOP: look around, notice your surroundings, the time and date, etc. Your child could be trying to point something out. *Many people report tingling in various parts of the body such as parts of the head, neck, face, a certain hand or foot, etc. when their child is trying to get their attention or just remind them they are STILL RIGHT HERE. (Clearly, there are a multitude of other ways they do this as well and everyone does not feel these tingles). *Honor and be grateful for ‘awakening’ experiences. Thank God/Spirit, your child, guides, angels, etc. *Don’t necessarily get caught up on having to meditate. Just talk to them like they are right there, (because they are) and carry on any dialogue that flows.

The Moms and Daughters of Helping Parents Heal - Fort Meyers

Our group met on October 2nd, the first time in a couple of months. For the first time, two of the daughters joined us. Last month was canceled due to a hurricane and the month prior month no one could make it. We had a lovely guest from a nonprofit, Peace through Paint, guide us in painting using some prompts and then we each shared what we had drawn and it’s significance to us. We had about an hour together after that and we reconnected. I asked everyone to share a sign they had received and/or a happy memory. It was nice to see everyone today plus see the new faces! 🥰

Stories of Validation-

Tracy Venter's Validation with her Granddaughter, Noelle
Jessica and Noelle, Noelle's Book

My daughter transitioned a little over 5 years ago, leaving behind her precious two-year-old daughter. Later her husband went to prison and so my ex-husband and I share guardianship of our granddaughter, Noelle. For a few months after Jessica passed, I know that Noelle could still feel and see her. One night as I lay next to her to get her to sleep, she suddenly bolted straight up in the bed and said excitedly “GMA! GMA! Look there is mommy! Do you see her? She is right there!” (as she pointed up toward the ceiling fan over the bed). Another time she was playing quietly in the living room while I worked in my study nearby. All of a sudden she said “Mommy! Mommy!”. I braced myself, fearing this could be sad and uncomfortable. But she went back to playing. A few minutes later she came running to the front door, looking out the window up and down the street. I asked her what she was doing, and she said, “Oh mommy had to leave now and go back to heaven”. I knew then that her mommy had been there playing with her.

She eventually seemed to lose this gift and although we talk about mommy often, I have never discussed seeing signs from mommy. Yesterday she showed me a book she had made about family and love being the most important thing. Every page had an upbeat message with a cheery drawing. Some pages said things like “Dream Big!!!”, “Always remember one is the strongest thing here. Love is stronger than hate or anger”, and “Happy days are worth everything”. However, when I came to this page, I was absolutely blown away by what this 7-year-old composed since, again, I have not really talked to her about signs. I will now!

Elizabeth Boisson's Validation for Morgan's 10-year Angel Date
Clockwise: Morgan Boisson, the F4EVR license plate, Morgan's beloved Toyota Tacoma when he delivered pizzas for Barros

My husband Cyril and I received a wonderful sign from Morgan while on our way to lunch a few days before Morgan's 10-year Angel Date on October 20th, 2019; we spotted Morgan’s red Toyota Tacoma ahead of us. When we drew closer, we saw that the license plate spelled ‘Forever’ (F4EVR) and it was a vanity plate from the University of Arizona, his alma mater. Morgan transitioned on October 20th, 2009, which is such a milestone! I know he was letting us know that he will be with us always. It makes our hearts sing!

Linda Zelik's Validations from her son Kevin
Kevin's Graduation 5 weeks before he transitioned, Linda and the first monarch

My husband and I were devastated when we lost our twenty-four-year-old son, Kevin, from a tragic accident in 2010. In the years following his death, as we grieved, we were blessed to receive many signs from him. I firmly believe that Kevin sent these signs to let us know he is happy on the other side as well as to help us heal. Afterlife signs in the form of butterflies are one of the most frequently reported types of visits. Perhaps the reason for this is because of their symbolic significance. The butterfly hatches as a caterpillar that eats voraciously for several weeks and quickly grows unto a fat, long crawling bug. It then crawls up to a safe surface and attaches firmly. As it hangs, its body forms a “J” shape that soon becomes shrouded in a cocoon within a day or two. This has often been thought of as symbolic of death. In the cocoon stage, it neither eats nor drinks as it hangs. The timing varies between species, but for the monarch, it is ten to fourteen days. Then, miraculously, the former caterpillar emerges as a fully formed butterfly with no traces of its former appearance. It hangs for a few hours allowing the wings to dry out and stretch before flying away as a new life form. This transformation from one form of life to another has long been thought to symbolize life after physical death.

The first sign we received was at our son’s graveside service. We handed out twenty-four white balloons, one representing each year of his life. After the brief service, we stepped out from under the canopy and released the balloons in unison. At that exact moment, a beautiful monarch butterfly flew just over our heads joining the balloons as they floated heavenward.

Throughout the first two years after his passing I experienced profound grief. I was overwhelmed with both excessive crying as well as extreme anxiety. My heart raced and I was unable to take a deep breath. Some months after losing my son, as I was walking in our neighborhood, a small white butterfly caught my eye. It was sitting in the dirt while wildly flapping its wings. I stopped to stare at this inexplicable sight. As I watched, mesmerized, I realized that the wings were beating at the same rate as my heart. While standing there, stupefied, it began to gradually beat its wings slower and slower. That is when a powerful thought came over me, “Mom, you need to calm down!” Then I noticed that my heart was slowing in sync with the butterfly’s wings. Also, I was finally able to take a much needed deep breath. That is when I realized what a wonderful gift my son had just sent me.

Several months after burying our son, my husband, Joe, and I needed a distraction and decided to take a road trip to Colorado. While there we took a hike along a gently flowing waterfall. My husband suggested we get off the trail and sit in order to enjoy the scenery. As we sat, a monarch butterfly appeared just in front of us. The odd thing was that it repeatedly flew back and forth while appearing to stare at us. This was such an odd behavior that it had our full attention. After several minutes, the butterfly landed in the dirt a few feet away and walked back and forth while continuing to stare at each of us. Now, this was getting really strange, especially as it kept this up for ten minutes before finally flying away. My physicist husband looked at me and said, “Do you think that was Kevin?” I replied, “Absolutely!”

A year later, we took a guided tour through the Northwest National parks, including Butchart Gardens in British Columbia, Canada. While there we visited a beautiful and lush butterfly garden nearby. My husband and I wandered around on different paths. I spotted the most beautiful butterfly I had ever seen, a Blue Morpho. This caught my interest because when its wings were closed it resembled a large moth with black spots on its brown wings. However, the top surface, which could be seen as it flew, was a gorgeous iridescent blue. I desperately wanted to photograph the beauty of this magnificent creature but every time it settled on a flower or piece of fruit it instantly closed its wings. After thirty minutes of failed attempts, I gave up and told Joe about my frustration. He frequently talks to our son in thought, so he asked him, ‘If you want, Kevin, would you help mom get this picture?’ Ten seconds later, that same butterfly flew over to us and landed on the front of Joe’s cargo pants. The butterfly opened his wings and stayed there for over a full minute. I took both stills and video while commenting, “This butterfly must really like you!” After it flew away my husband revealed to me what he had asked Kevin to do. Tears of joy ran down my face as I realized that this was yet another sign from our beloved son.

To me, each of these occurrences was beyond a coincidence as most were contrary to the natural behavior of butterflies. There is no doubt in my mind that these were signs from Kevin and as such, have given me tremendous solace and healing. I think it is important for anyone grieving the loss of someone for whom they have a strong love-bond to be open to and be on the lookout for, signs they might be sending. It also doesn’t hurt to ask for a sign, you just might be pleasantly surprised.

The Healing Cross Project provides Showers to the Homeless

Kim Courtney (far right) and Samantha Whirley (center) and other volunteers

Kim Courtney founded The Healing Cross Project in honor of her son Derrick.  She believes that everyone should be entitled to a basic human need such as a shower.  For her first event,  The Healing Cross Project partnered with Thundershowers, Specialty Textiles and the Paul C. Helmick Foundation on August 18th to provide showers for the homeless in Phoenix. They had over 300 participants attend.  Then on October 12th, they provided not only showers, but also provide socks, undergarments, clothing, and haircuts.  Samatha Whirley provided moral support in honor of her son Jacob. As Kim says, Derrick's legacy was hard at work giving some dignity back to the homeless and an understanding of how much they do suffer.  These two moms are truly bright lights!!

New Book Recommendations:

10 Life-Changing Lessons from Heaven by Jeff Janssen

Jeff Janssen has written a book that allows us to live with more purpose, peace, passion, and perspective.  As he says, we must stop letting our fears and failures hold us back and instead discover how to live our lives fully and fearlessly based on the powerful, practical and paradigm-shifting wisdom of 2,500 Near-Death Experiencers.

Jeff's book has many recommendations from members of the Afterlife community, including Helping Parents Heal Conference presenters Jeffery Olsen and Dr. Jeff O'Driscoll.  This one is from Brian D. Smith, Shining Light Parent, Helping Parents Heal Board Member and Online Co-Affiliate Leader, and Author of Grief 2 Growth: Planted, not Buried.  How to Survive and Thrive After Life's Greatest Challenges:

The near-death experience is profoundly life-changing for the experiencer.  What we know now is these lessons are not just for the experiencer but for all of us.  In this deeply inspirational book, Jeff Janssen has collected near-death experiences and the lessons taught from them and categorized them into teachings that can change our lives in the here and now.  There are practices you can take from this book and apply today.  Ther's no need to wait until we cross over to get the lessons.  We don't even have to go through the trauma of nearly dying.  Whether you've studied near-death experiences for years, as I have, or you're brand new to the field, this book is one you should read.

Would you like to share a story of validation or healing with other Parents? We are all able to heal when we share personal stories about our children with others.  Moreover, everyone benefits from validations that we receive from our children.  We love to hear about them!  If you have a story that you would like to share about your child, please let us know and we will include it in a future newsletter.  Please send it to Elizabeth Boisson at (Due to space limitations, please be sure it is no longer than 500-600 words.)
