Happy New Year!
I was looking at the last newsletter I wrote and the title was, "there is a chill in the air".  Well, today in Nederland the high is supposed to be -5 degrees, so that title made me laugh.  We tend to forget the really cold days until they come back.

What I won't forget is the incredible year we have had here at the Carousel. It started in May with the publication of an article about Scott Harrison in Spirit Magazine (Southwest Air's inflight magazine), one of the most beautiful summers here in Nederland, an amazing National Carousel Day celebration, and then being named the #1 place to take kids by Denver's Kids Out and About.

This last year the Carousel provided over 1,500 rides to seniors, after school and preschool programs, and people with disabilities of all ages. We gave back to the community with free ride days, hosted fundraisers for the Nederland Elementary School PTA, Rocky Mountain Wild, Nederland Food Pantry, and Miles and Nick, a couple of teenagers seriously hurt in a car accident.

If you haven't already donated, or are still making end-of-year donations please consider supporting the Carousel of Happiness by using the Colorado Gives Portal. It’s easy and any dollar amount brings a little more happiness to the world around us...  (use the link or mail checks to PO Box 1811, Nederland, CO 80466)  IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING A YEAR-END DONATION SEE THE ARTICLE BELOW ABOUT THE CAROUSEL BOOK.
New Hours:

The Twirling Girl Visits the Carousel

The Twirling Girl sitting atop the Carousel is another of the many s Carousel.  Briefly, Scott saw her picture in the Daily Camera in 1999. Her smile and attitude in the picture captivated him and he carved her likeness for the top of the Carousel.  There was no caption on the picture and when the Carousel started to become a reality a search was conducted and she was eventually found, in Switzerland.  Now she is 19 years old, attending college in the Netherlands and in person is the same happy girl. The whole story can be found here

The Carousel is Turning 5 and
Writing a Book

This coming Memorial Day the Carousel will be celebrating 5 years. To mark this event we'll have souvenir tickets, fun new gift shop merchandise and 'the book'. A local author, and one of the people instrumental in bringing the Carousel to life, is writing the story of our Carousel. The book will cover its beginnings as a new Looff Carousel built for the Saltair Amusement Park, its journey to Nederland and include Scott's story.

The book will be available online and in the gift shop by Memorial Day. To help with the publishing costs we are offering 1 book, personalized for you by Scott Harrison, with a year-end donation of $50 or more.  (retail $19.99 - $24.99)

Use the Colorado Gives portal to make a one-time donation and direct your donation to the Carousel Book. We'll be sure to connect with you when the book comes out.
