Hivos out in force during #16Days of activism
 

This year, during the UN’s global campaign ‘16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence’, Hivos was out in force – on the ground and online – to help galvanise action to end violence against women and girls around the world.

Hivos East Africa unveils photography campaign: #InHerShoes 
 

With creative composition and media techniques, creative photography can sometimes have greater impact than realistic images. This is why Hivos East Africa joined the UN’s annual 16 Days of Activism campaign with a photo series dubbed: #InHerShoes. These powerful images modelled by the hub’s own staff depict the real stories of women facing different forms of abuse in the region.

Nexos: A light for Human Rights
 

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can.” Peter-Derrek Hof, Dutch Ambassador for Central America, repeated these words by Martin Luther King to officially launch Nexos, a Human Rights Program in Central America implemented by Hivos for the Embassy of the Netherlands. The initiative aims at raising awareness, strengthening the rule of law, increasing general safety and stimulating the climate of investment in Central America.

#HappyFlow Lobbies Southern African parliamentarians for free access to sanitary wear


In Southern Africa, taboo and the prohibitive cost of sanitary towels cause many young women and girls to miss school days, suffer humiliation and use potentially dangerous absorbent materials. With support from Hivos Southern Africa’s sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) fund, Katswe launched the #HappyFlow Campaign to push countries in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) to recognise menstrual hygiene products as a basic need that should be provided for free.

Women Empowered for Leadership


Women Empowered for Leadership (WE4L) is a five-year programme managed by Hivos and implemented together with local partners in Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Jordan and Lebanon, amongst others. The programme aims for women to have equal opportunities and the capacity to fully participate in political and societal decision-making processes.

Call for proposals: Civic Engagement for Open Contracting


Hivos and ARTICLE 19 are currently seeking proposals for our global programme on Open Contracting Data that builds the capacity of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), media, entrepreneurs or social-start-ups in analyzing public contracting data, for lobby and advocacy purposes.

Open Source Seed Systems 


Hivos’ Open Source Seed Systems (OSSS) programme aims to reverse the trend towards exclusive and monopolistic rights on knowledge and genetic plant resources for food and agriculture by promoting the freedom to use seeds and stimulate breeding, diversification and resilience.  We support concrete initiatives, learn what works and use the results in our lobbying and advocacy for change.
