Alumni Spotlight: Nadia Brigham, '99, '01 & '02

Growing up in Benton Harbor, Nadia Brigham ’99, ’01, & ‘02 experienced first-hand a level of poverty that has crippled so much of America’s youth. But instead of letting it defeat her, she has used her past experiences as a source of inspiration to break the cycle of poverty and help to put the communities of West Michigan back on track.

Brigham knew she could make a difference. Although she already had the passion and the concepts, she needed the know-how to carry out her strategy, so she enrolled in the undergraduate social work program at Grand Valley and let her ideas thrive. What began as a desire to help individuals quickly evolved into a growing project to correct the inequalities that prevent people from living meaningful and productive lives. Celebrate Women in Sports with GVSU - February 23

The Boand & Rowe Endowment for Advancement of Women in Sports & Physical Activity was created as part of a celebration of 40 years of Title IX, but more so as a reminder of the work that still needs to be done relevant to equity in educational opportunities, sport and physical activity.

The fund is named in honor of Joan Boand and Patti Rowe — two extraordinary women whose leadership and passion for equality have made a long-lasting impact on the greater Grand Valley Community.

Please join us for a special event on February 23, 2012 to help raise funds and awareness for this endowment. After the event, stay for the women’s basketball game and cheer on the Lakers! You can also give now. Thank you for investing in our Grand Valley!
