The Alumni Association is looking for dedicated, energetic, and creative individuals to serve on its Board of Directors to help shape the future of the university and maintain its high level of excellence. Shawn Evans, '07 Drops 110 Pounds, Gains Perspective

By his early twenties, Shawn Evans, ‘07 had settled into a normal adult life. He got married, bought a house, and started a family. But he was also dangerously overweight and his college career had only just begun.
After graduating with a degree in Philosophy, Evans made the conscious decision to change his habits. Today, he is 110 pounds lighter, and has set goals to complete several races including the 15.5 mile River Bank Run, where he raised $300 to help Grand Valley students. Full Story

Last Chance to Register for the Alumni Golf Outing

The annual Alumni Golf Outing is only weeks away and there are less than a dozen team spaces left. Register now for the event that will take place July 20, 2013. Enjoy 18 holes of golf, a swag bag, raffles, and a silent auction. Registration begins at noon with a shot-gun start at 1:30 p.m. Still working on your handicap? Get some practice at the beginner's instructional lesson on the day of the event at 3:30 p.m. The registration deadline is July 14.

Music & Microbrews at the Young Alumni Picnic Pops Event

Young Alumni are invited to enjoy the best of summer at D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops. The concert begins at 6:00 p.m. on July 25, 2013 and will include an evening of live music from the Grand Rapids Symphony as well as great food and unique beverages. Tickets are $10 per person which includes picnic fare, your favorite local microbrews, and the sounds of Gotta Dance! The greatest dance tunes of all time from the 70's, 80's, and 90's performed by the Symphony. Each guest (21+) will get a souvenir beer glass and one drink ticket as part of their package. A cash bar will be available.

Grab a Box and Help the Newest Lakers Move in

This fall, hundreds of freshmen will begin their Grand Valley journeys. What better way to start it than by seeing some friendly Laker faces! Freshmen Move-In on August 20, 2013 is a great excuse to visit the campus while showing the newest residents what it means to be a Laker for a Lifetime. It's also a great way to reconnect with old pals and reminisce about what the living centers looked like when you were a student.

Sign up to volunteer for a morning or afternoon shift. All volunteers will receive breakfast and lunch, a t-shirt, and unlimited water and Gatorade during their shift.

New! GVSU Baseball Alumni Chapter

It has been an exciting year for Laker baseball! Led by inaugural president, Chad Tolson, '97 & '04, several members of the GVSU Baseball Alumni Association made a great commitment to become an active part of the alumni community. These individuals will continue to support the current student athletes, and provide opportunities for baseball alumni to return to GVSU and renew their relationship with former teammates.

How can you get involved? Visit the new website, become a dues paying member, give back to the program and attend baseball games.

Mark Your Calendar for the September 14 Football Tailgate Event

Mark your calendars, Lakers. The Alumni Tailgate is coming up and you're going to want to be there! The evening will honor the 1973 and 2003 football teams. Listen to the music stylings of alumna Kari Lynch, '10 and the Kari Lynch Band. The event starts at 4:00 p.m. and is sponsored by the GVSU Alumni Association, the Football Alumni Association and the Seidman College of Business.

Jerry Baltes Division II Program of the Year Award

Not only did the Grand Valley State Women's Track and Cross Country team win the USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award for the fifth year in a row, they are also the first team to win the award under its new title, the Jerry Baltes Division II Program of the Year Award, named after the Head Coach of the GVSU Track and Cross Country teams. Another GLIAC Presidents' Cup for GVSU

The Presidents' Trophy, commonly referred to as the All-Sports Trophy, is awarded each year to the GLIAC conference member who has demonstrated the greatest all-around excellence in all or most sports. This year, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced that Grand Valley State University claimed the trophy for the 15th consecutive year and a GLIAC-best 20 times overall. Claiming eleven GLIAC Championships, along with three second place finishes, there's no doubt this was well deserved. GO LAKERS! Full Story

The new site will allow you to search for available, full-time professional opportunities targeted at GVSU students and alumni. Additionally, you can search for contacts at GVSU employer partners, register for career-related events, and sign up for on-campus interviews.  The launch presents a great opportunity to update your resume and upload it into the new system, as old documents were not transferred.
