5x5 Night at GVSU

On Wednesday, March 23 at GVSU, five creators, entrepreneurs and researchers will pitch their ideas to a panel of judges and a live audience for a chance to win $5,000 for the inaugural GVSU: 5x5 Night. The event is open to the public. The ideas must be affiliated with GVSU, whether they be a community partner, student, faculty, or staff. The competition is part of GVSU's partnership with the Stanford Epicenter’s Pathways to Innovation, a cross disciplinary, experiential program designed to instill entrepreneurial practices across campus.

Although $5,000 is incentive to participate, there are many other benefits to pitching. Presenting an idea, a research proposal or a community project to a public audience allows creators to develop a community around their idea. They get to see what works and what doesn't, where the strength of the idea lies and what improvements are needed.

Our Top Priority – Creating Pathways

Last summer, Grand Valley was named a Best College by Money Magazine for providing the best value for its students. Money magazine selected colleges and universities that offer “a great education, at an affordable price, that help students launch promising careers.”  Even with national rankings like this one Grand Valley is still out of reach for many families. Pathway Scholarships fill the gap between savings and financial aid. Support from the Grand Valley community for these middle income, pathway eligible students and families is critical.

Help students like Kierra (above) reach their goals.

GVSU Hockey Alumni Annual Alumni Game

On January 29 the GVSU Hockey Alumni hosted its annual Alumni Game at the Georgetown Ice Arena.  The annual event brings together more than 30 former players from all corners of the U.S. and graduates from as far back as 1998.  Not only is this game a great way to connect with past players but it is also a great time to get growing families together.  Following the alumni game the Division II men's hockey club team skated to a 6-1 victory over Michigan State in front of a sold out crowd.  For more information about the hockey alumni contact or find them on Facebook.
