360 Degrees of GVSU - Take the Virtual GRAND Tour

More than 50 Lakers are hopping off the couch this spring and hitting the course at the Fifth Third River Bank Run. They're teaming up for health, and for the future of Grand Valley students by raising money for student programs and financial assistance. They have just 36 days to meet their fundraising goals. Alumni Spotlight - Distinguished Alumna Laurie Finney Beard, '81

Laurie Finney Beard, '81 is the President of Founders Bank & Trust, a privately held bank in Grand Rapids. Beginning her career as a bank examiner for the Federal Government in Chicago, Beard later relocated to Michigan and earned her Masters of Business Administration from Grand Valley State University.

Beard serves as trustee of the Grand Rapids Community Foundation and is a member of the Grand Valley University Foundation Board, the GVSU Women’s Center Advisory Board, and the Seidman School of Business Dean’s Advisory Board. Her community focus has earned her recognition as one of Grand Rapids Business Journal’s 50 Most Influential Women, as Seidman School of Business Alumnus of the Year, and as one of the Top Women in Finance in West Michigan. She and Outstanding Educator Award Winner Arthur Campbell will be honored at an awards dinner on April 26.

We're Celebrating Our Volunteers - April 9

A world of thanks to all the alumni volunteers of the alumni volunteers who have supported GVSU in the last year! The Alumni Association invites all alumni volunteers and a guest to the Alumni Volunteer Celebration on April 9, 2013 for hosted beverages and a strolling dinner. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and will be held in the Hager-Lubbers Exhibition Hall on Grand Valley's Grand Rapids campus.

Welcome Rowing Season at the Lubbers Regatta - April 13

Cheer on the Grand Valley Rowing Team at the 2013 Lubbers Cup Regatta. Eight universities totaling more than 500 student athletes will kick off the regatta season on April 13, 2013 at the Spring Lake Yacht Club. New to the regatta? Event Recaps

Community Outreach Week set another participation record in 2013! The events took place from March 18 through March 23, 2013. More than 800 alumni, students, friends, family and GVSU supporters volunteered in the name of Grand Valley over the course of the 6 days. Projects were organized by individuals and groups from Allendale to Montana to Thailand and in between. Volunteer opportunities ranged from dog walking with the SPCA, to assisting at Special Olympics to revitalizing a city aquarium, and even reading books to children in different languages. President Haas Addresses Higher Education Appropriations Committee

GVSU President Thomas J. Haas addressed the Michigan House of Representatives Higher Education Appropriations Committee on March 5. In his presentation, President Haas highlighted Grand Valley's successes, showed how the university has exceeded expectations, and challenged lawmakers on current impractical policies.

Graduate Showcase - April 16

The Office of Graduate Studies and the Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence will host the Graduate Showcase Event on April 19, 2013 to highlight the exceptional work of Grand Valley's graduate students. The event will begin at 3:30 p.m. and include light refreshments and keynote speaker, Dr. Paul Vanderburgh.

Tee Off with CLAS this Summer

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites alumni, family, faculty, and friends to the Meadows Golf Course for the second annual CLAS on the Green golf outing on June 19, 2013. The day begins with a sign-in registration and an open driving range at noon, then a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. And since 18 holes of golf can leave anyone hungry, there will also be a cookout celebration at 6:00 p.m. All proceeds benefit CLAS Scholarships, so gather your group and register today.
