Sunday, June 9th

the Feast of Pentecost

         FIRST READING: Acts 2: 1- 21
         PSALM: 104
         NEW TESTAMENT: Romans 8: 14- 17
         GOSPEL: John 14: 8- 17

Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

This Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost. Pentecost celebrates the gift of the Holy Spirit, sent in a particular way to the Church fifty days after the first Easter. Our reading from Acts 2 tells the story of the first Pentecost. In Romans, we consider what it means to have received this gift, adopted by grace into the family of God. In John, we reflect on Christ's promise of the coming of the Spirit, called in John's gospel the Advocate. We worship at 8:00 and 10:00. Remember to wear red!

Celebrations on Pentecost: This Sunday, we will honor members of our parish for their work and accomplishments this year:
those who have worked to support Christian Education,
Chez Valentine, as she finishes her time teaching CE with us,

   our High School Seniors.
Join us after the 10:00 Eucharist at the Parish Picnic.

Building on the Sure Foundation Please see a separate e-mail today with an update on our modest capital campaign to renovate the downstairs restrooms, children's classrooms, and the kitchen. As of writing, we have received just over $32,700 in support, with additional pledges of $11,000. This puts us near our halfway point, but with work yet to do. Please consider donating or making a pledge by the end of June. Thank you!

Downstairs Renovations are nearing completion. The restrooms and the nursery, though not finished, are now ready for use.

Trinity Sunday is next Sunday, following Pentecost as it does each year. Trinity Sunday is the only date on the Church Calendar devoted to a particular theological claim alone, but its celebration allows us to ponder the unique claim of the Christian faith in scripture, music, and artistic expression. Before she leaves, Chez Valentine will display some original artwork on the Trinity which was a part of her study at BC's School of Theology and Ministry.

Summer Schedule begins on Sunday, June 23rd. We will worship on Sundays at 9:00 am beginning on June 23 and throughout the summer. Our final 9:00 service will be the Sunday before Labor Day, September 1st.

See you Sunday!

peace, Jay+

Our capital campaign for the renovation of Good Shepherd's downstairs space, "Building on the Sure Foundation," is making good progress. The kitchen, the two restrooms, the first and second grade classroom, and the nursery, are being rejuvenated. The two restrooms are also being made handicapped accessible.
Both fundraising and renovations are progressing well. Our goal for this effort is $75,000, and at present we are approximately half way to our goal. Please consider prayerfully what you can give, and please make your gift or pledge by the end of June.
PLEASE NOTE: Renovations are nearing completion, and some spaces are available as renovations complete.
Some spaces may still be unavailable. Look for signage regarding spaces involved in the renovation. And note: restrooms are now single-use, gender neutral, and handicapped accessible.
Pentecost Sunday-- June 9th this year-- is a major feast of the Christian year. This year on Pentecost, we will honor our graduating seniors, give thanks for those who have helped with our Christian Education ministry this year, and we will enjoy our annual Parish Picnic following the 10:00 Eucharist.
Our summer schedule begins on Sunday, June 23, and lasts until Sunday, September 1. Each Sunday, we will have one Eucharist with hymns at 9:00 am.
Mark your calendars:
Good Shepherd, through our Outreach ministry, will volunteer with B-SAFE on July 10-12.

We will provide lunch at Sts. A&M on Wednesday and Thursday, and on Friday we will support the field trip to Lake Cochituate. Contact Marilyn Crone for more details.
Put forth, O God, thy Spirit's might
and bid thy Church increase,

in breadth and length,
in depth and height,
her unity in peace.

Let what apostles knew of thee

be ours from age to age;
their steadfast faith our unity,
their peace our heritage.
