Rest in Peace Jane Hemstreet (1937 - 2022)
Jane Hemstreet, a devoted member of Good Shepherd, died peacefully on Wednesday. Originally from Buffalo, NY, Jane and Russell came to Good Shepherd after they settled in Dover. She is survived by a daughter, Susan, of Barrington, VT, and a grandson, Benjamin, of Lynchburg, VA. During the last decade, she was a resident at the Fox Hill Community.
Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Burke and Blackington Funeral Home on Washington Street in W. Newton. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Dover Cemetery, Fr. Michael presiding.
May her soul and the souls of the righteous, through the mercies of God, rest in peace.
Pictured above, Jane (at right) volunteering at B-Safe in July, 2022-- Jane served for many years on our Outreach Committee.
From Outreach:
B-LOVE FUEL bags for St Stephens Youth Programs
This year in July, we will support the families of B-SAFE. Our goal is a total of fifty bags of groceries OR donations towards buying groceries for a bag. Deliver bags to the church by Sunday, July 10.
Good Shepherd has upgraded our HEPA air filters. We have added two Medify Air MA-112 filters to existing HEPA filters. These medical grade, large area filters are made for churches, concert halls, and universities-- they offer the highest grade of HEPA filters, and purify over 5,000 square feet in less than 15 minutes.
Air filtration will continue indefinitely.
MASKS ENCOURAGED INDOORS.
Ministers and chalice bearers will continue to mask while distributing communion indefinitely, and anytime there is close face-to-face contact.
Communion wine is offered via the Common Cup or in individual chalices-- both are available at the altar rail.
If you wish to receive individually, please bring your own chalice or small vessel, or use one of the chalices available in the back for the church.
The Eucharistic minister will pour consecrated wine into your chalice.
All singers in our choir are required to be fully vaccinated. We have refigured the chancel to allow for additional space between choir members.
Employees of the parish, as well as those working with Christian Education, must be fully vaccinated.
Christian Ed for children and youth will follow the same protocols as the Newton Public Schools.
Masking may be necessary in certain circumstances, and we ask children and teenagers to follow the wishes of their families at all times.
We continue to use the outdoor gathering space of the Good Shepherd Green as often as the weather allows.
We need lectors, intercessors, chalice bearers, and acolytes for our 10:00 am Eucharist during the summer-- both those who have served in the past and those willing to serve in the future. If you are interested in taking on a new role, the clergy are available to help with preparation. Contact Fr. Michael to learn more or volunteer (associate.rector@goodshepherdnewton.org).
In order to continue to broadcast Sunday worship live on YouTube, we need in-person volunteers for very simple technical support. Some is as simple as clicking a button! Contact Troy Bracher (2112tcb@gmail.com) for information and to help.
For those not yet ready to return to in-person worship, we continue to broadcast all services held in the church live on Good Shepherd's YouTube channel.
And until the day that we can all gather again, Good Shepherd is leaving on the light for you.
