Sunday, June 2nd

the Sunday after Ascension

8:00 AM-- HOLY EUCHARIST, RITE I
11:30 AM-- COFFEE HOUR in the COMMON ROOM
11:45 AM-- ADULT FORUM in the LORING ROOM

         FIRST READING: Acts 1: 1-11
         PSALM: 47
         NEW TESTAMENT: Ephesians 1: 15-23
         GOSPEL: Luke 24: 44-53

Grant, we pray, Almighty God, that as we believe your only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into heaven, so we may also in heart and mind there ascend, and with him continually dwell; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

This Sunday is the Seventh Sunday in Easter. It is also the Sunday after the Ascension and the Sunday before Pentecost, sometimes called Ascensiontide Sunday. This year, we will use the prayers and scriptures for the Ascension on Sunday. The reading from Acts recounts Christ's departure from his followers, but promising them that they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. After he ascends, two men dressed in white ask them why they are looking up into heaven instead of doing what Jesus asked them to do, a good reminder for each of us. In Luke's gospel, Jesus leads his followers outside of Jerusalem where he offers one final way of understanding the meaning of his life, and then in a moment of blessing he withdraws into heaven. We worship at 8:00 and 10:00.

Building on the Sure Foundation Please be on the lookout for information on our modest capital campaign to renovate the downstairs restrooms, children's classrooms, and the kitchen. As of writing, we have received just over $30,000 in support, with additional pledges of $10,000. This puts us near our halfway point, but with work yet to do. Thank you!

Downstairs Renovations are moving along well, and we expect them to be completed very soon. The two downstairs restrooms will now be single-use facilities that are ADA compliant. This means that they are no longer gender specific, so feel free to use either of them. Each restroom also has a baby changing table, which we hope will be useful for families with small children.

Adult Forum in Eastertide continues this Sunday at 11:45. Louise Conant will be leading this Sunday's discussion. This Sunday will be our last Adult Forum of the school year, and we will begin again in September. Thanks for all of you who have attended and led forums during the last year.

Pentecost Sunday, June 9th Pentecost Sunday, on which we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit, falls fifty days after Easter-- this year on June 9th. This year we will celebrate the graduation of our seniors, say thank you to those who have supported Christian Education during the year, honor Chez Valentine on her graduation from BC's School of Theology and Ministry and gather on the Good Shepherd Green for our parish picnic. Mark your calendars! And wear red.

Parish Picnic will follow worship on Sunday, June 9th. It will be an especially festive day, and we hope to have lunch outside on the Good Shepherd Green. Plan to join us.

peace, Jay+

Our capital campaign for the renovation of Good Shepherd's downstairs space, "Building on the Sure Foundation," is making good progress. The kitchen, the two restrooms, the first and second grade classroom, and the nursery, are being rejuvenated. The two restrooms are also being made handicapped accessible.
Both fundraising and renovations are progressing well. Our goal for this effort is $75,000, and at present we are approximately half way to our goal. Please consider prayerfully what you can give, and please make your gift in May or June of this year.
PLEASE NOTE: Renovations have begun on the downstairs restrooms. Downstairs restrooms, as well as the nursery, are not accessible.

Childcare is available Sundays in the Loring Room. During renovations, the restroom across from the Atrium will be the only available facility.
Pentecost Sunday-- June 9th this year-- is a major feast of the Christian year. This year on Pentecost, we will honor our graduating seniors, give thanks for those who have helped with our Christian Education ministry this year, and we will enjoy our annual Parish Picnic following the 10:00 Eucharist.
Our summer schedule begins on Sunday, June 23, and lasts until Sunday, September 1. Each Sunday, we will have one Eucharist with hymns at 9:00 am.
Mark your calendars:
Good Shepherd, through our Outreach ministry, will volunteer with B-SAFE on July 10-12.

We will provide lunch at Sts. A&M on Wednesday and Thursday, and on Friday we will support the field trip to Lake Cochituate. Contact Marilyn Crone for more details.
Hail the day that sees him rise,

glorious to his native skies;
Christ, awhile to mortals given,

enters now the highest heaven,
