Fresh Air 2013

This Saturday sees the opening of the summer sculpture exhibition, FRESH AIR  2013, at the Quennington Old Rectory, Quennington, Nr Cirencester UK. Fresh Air is an exciting sculpture biennale, hosted by Lucy and David Abel-Smith, with work curated by Ana Bianchi representing a diverse range of respected artists. This year we are showing LAUNCH, a 2.1m tall bronzed arch sculpture, and a group of 3 SOAR sculptures. Both installations follow on from the FLEDGE; INCREMENTS OF FLIGHT sculptures, first exhibited in Salisbury Cathedral and which were included in Fresh Air in 2011.

All of these sculptures consider flight and in particular, swans taking off from the water; LAUNCH is about the energy used to elevate the swan from swimming to flying and the SOAR sculptures considers the reflection in the water of the swan as it takes off, merging the mirror image with the wings and the effort.

The show opens to the public on Sunday 16th June until Sunday 7th July, with the private view on Saturday 15th June, 4.30 - 8.30pm.

SOAR sculptures are cast in different materials; one of the SOAR pieces is cast in bronze, locally at Pangolin. The other two are cast in a light reflecting glass- concrete material which Rebecca has been exploring for a year and developing with industry partners. The concrete uses recycled crushed glass from bottles as an aggregate rather than sand and gravel, because Rebecca wants to draw attention to glass bottles as a precious material, a valuable resource often inefficiently recycled.

LAUNCH is made in fiberglass and bronze resin. It is robust but light enough to be moved from venue to venue and ready to be cast in bronze.

Summer exhibitions that are already running with Rebecca's work include:

The Garden Gallery, Broughton, Wiltshire, includes LOTUS EDITION this year.
Debut Contemporary in Notting Hill, London are now representing us and are showing a bronze FLEDGE UPLIFT. Private View Wednesday 3rd July, 7-9pm.
The Hannah Peshar Sculpture Garden, Ockley, Surrey, has three works by Rebecca,

Beukenhof-Pheonix Gallery, Klusgergen, Belgium, have three GINGKO sculptures.
