Receive the children in reverence;
Educate them in love;
Let them go forth in freedom.

FROM REBECCA'S DESK: A NOTE FROM OUR PEDAGOGICAL COORDINATOR
Here we are at the end of another school year.  It seems like yesterday we were ushering in the new grade ones under the rainbow bridge and welcoming new families into all of our classes.  It has been a wonderful year of growth and learning at Saltwater.  We have had opportunities twice this year to join together Parents, Faculty and Staff to envision what we want for our school and how we wish to serve in it.  We have had opportunities to receive mentoring from the Ministry of Education and from the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA).  We have joined together as Board, Faculty and Staff to renew our school Vision.  All through the year we have worked diligently in Faculty, Committee and Board meetings to ensure the effective running of our school in its service to the children within.

We continue to strive for clear policies and processes that support our working together to bring Waldorf education to our community.  To this end we are engaged in the invigorating process of renewing and refreshing our policy handbooks.  This is something we do on an ongoing basis on a small scale as we grow and our needs change.  This year community members have been supportive in helping to identify those areas that need developing.  Thank you for your input, your ideas and your commitment to the working and building of Saltwater Waldorf School.

Here is to a fun and rejuvenating summer.  See you in the Fall for another year of learning and growth.

FOND FAREWELL TO MISS WENDY

This year we say a fond farewell to our beloved preschool teacher, Miss Wendy. Wendy has provided loving and creative teaching for many little souls, and will always be a part of the Saltwater family. We wish Wendy all the best - she will be sorely missed, but we suppose she deserves to be allowed to retire - wink wink! Wendy hands the preschool reins over to Miss Lucia.
PRESENTING: THE FIRST GRADUATING CLASS AT SALTWATER SCHOOL
The current Class 6-7 began with 5 students in a combined Class 3-4, taught by Jennifer Irwin. Within the first month a sixth student joined. In the following year, Class 4-5 said goodbye to one student, and hello to four new ones, and reached a total of 9. In the following year Class 5-6 moved into Hemlock House, and said goodbye to one student and hello to 4 new ones. The class reached 12 students.

For the 2015-16 school year, we said goodbye to one student, and hello to one new student. This class has always been comprised of an amazing mix of personalities, life experiences, and skills. As the school years went on, this original group of students rolled along with a greater and stronger momentum, gathering new classmates each year.

Being the oldest class in the school, and first forming at the Grade 3-4 level, this has created a unique experience for everyone involved. Most of the students have arrived from various public schools, and the most common reason for the transition to our school was the search for a loving and nurturing environment for their children to thrive in, and to rediscover the joy and wonder in learning. Over the years the work has been to create a safe and nurturing place for these children to gain inner strength, acceptance, compassion, confidence, and joy.

The students will be turning 13 and 14 years old in the upcoming  school year, and are looking to discover what lies beyond our beautiful little school. Through many discussions with parents, teachers and administrators, it was decided that with the high number of students ready to take their next step towards junior high or high school, that the number of students wanting to continue at Saltwater School in Class 7-8 was not sustainable.
It is with great pride that we see this group of students ready to move on to their next phase of schooling. It is with great joy that we envision them striving and rising up to the highest of human qualities, and influencing others along their way.

There will be a Graduation Ceremony held in the backyard of Hemlock House on June 15th5:30-6:30pm-all are welcome. There will also be an opportunity to wish these students well at our end of year ceremony on June 17 beginning at 9am.
INTRODUCING: THE NEW JUNIOR PREP PROGRAM
The Saltwater School Junior Prep Program was born out of a need for a transitional program to serve 3 students within the school. The program aims to foster these students’s sense of community, to develop leadership and responsibility, and to meet both the educational and social-emotional needs.

The program will provide modified Grade 7 Curriculum, Main Lesson, Track Classes and Electives. It will follow a standard block rotation. The students will be taught by our Remedial Teacher Sarah Nolin during the academic portion of their day, and will receive services for the afternoon portion of their day by specialty service providers. The students in the program will take on various leadership roles within the school and with the younger grades.

We are so pleased to have been given the faith and space in which to allow these very special students to grow within the loving support that Saltwater Waldorf School provides them, and to the parents that recognized the gift of opportunity that this has allowed.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST... WISHING THE BEST TO MISS JEAN AND MISS DEVINE
Jean Ferderber, aka Miss Jean, has blessed our kindergarten program with her lovely presence this year. We wish her all the best as she moves on to a new adventure with another Waldorf school. We'll miss you, Miss Jean!
We also wish Miss Devine the best. Melanie Devine has done a wonderful job working as an Educational Assistant this year; we will miss her as she moves on, and thank her for all her contributions to the Saltwater School family.
