General Membership Meeting - 1/7
Please join us for our first Northshore Council PTSA General Membership Meeting of 2019 on Monday, January 7th at the NSD Admin Building (3330 Monte Villa Pkwy, Bothell, WA 98021). There will be a meet and greet at 6:30 and the meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. Each PTA may send up to 4 voting representatives-- but we encourage ALL who are interested to attend.

To start the year off, we are excited to welcome Dr. Charla Griffy-Brown as guest speaker. Non-profit organizations are increasingly becoming targets for fraud, and there are PTAs that have fallen prey to email and "phishing" schemes. Charla has a wealth of experience in the world of non-profits and technology and she will be sharing information about what you *need to know* about cybersecurity, financial best practices, and money handling so you can better protect YOUR PTA from fraud. In addition to a presentation there will be a Q&A so that you can get your questions answered!

We hope you join us for what is sure to be an informative meeting!
Reflections Celebration - 1/12
We hope you will join us for the Northshore Council Reflections celebration on Saturday, January 12th at Eastside Foursquare Church (14520 100th Ave NE, Bothell, WA 98011). This year we had 270 artists throughout the district who participated! The event will begin with a dedicated time for our Special Artist submitters from 6:30pm - 7pm, followed by viewing time for the general public from 7pm - 8:30pm.

Set up will take place all day on Saturday, 1/12, and we will need lots of helping hands. If you know anyone who needs service hours or can volunteer, please share this sign-up with them:

PTA Praise
Hollywood Hill PTA has facilitated the development of a Sensory/Comfort Tote that lives between the gym and music room, and is accessible to anyone during school assemblies and evening events. The box has headphones, ear plugs, a teddy bear, bumpy seat pad, activity books and crayons, and other options for kids of all ages. Directions are simply to use as needed to ease discomfort of any child. Return items, wiped down, to the box when done.

It is such wonderful idea that works to help create an inclusive and welcoming environment at events at your school! Great job Hollywood Hill PTA!

WSPTA Responds to the Federal School Safety Commission Report

After the February 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the Trump Administration established the Federal Commission on School Safety in order to both research and recommend solutions to advance the safety of our schools. The Commission released its final report in December. WSPTA supports many of the ideas but has concerns about several of the recommendations, including the rollback of guidance on school discipline and the need for greater attention and resource provisions for mental health early intervention and prevention services for youth and their families.
