Join us every Tuesday at noon (3/24, 3/31, 4/7, 4/14, 4/21) for continuing online discussion about PTAs and Coronavirus: How to Deal. We want to bring Northshore PTA leaders together to share ideas and innovations, ask questions and voice concerns, and work together to find ways to better serve our school communities (and beyond!) through the COVID-19 crisis. WSPTA Reflections Finalists
Congratulations again to our 67 Northshore students who qualified for state-level judging in this year's Reflections competition! The results from Washington State PTA are in and we have nine students who placed at the state level:
Washington State PTA finalists who receive an “Outstanding Interpretation” award will advance to the National PTA round. We want to offer special congratulations to Anthony Schmidt, whose photography entry, titled "Stuck in the Mud," will be continuing on to the National level! The 2019-2020 national winners will be announced May 1, 2020. For more information about Reflections, including the full list of state winners, visit our website.
Tip of the Week
What can our PTAs do to help?

All PTAs
Please continue to share messages that you receive from the district with your community. For various reasons, some people have trouble receiving emails from the district but they may get them from your PTA, so please help spread district news through your school's community.

Elementary PTAs:
Share the district's childcare survey/signup information with your community-- we have heard that there is still capacity, so we want families who need it to apply for it!

Middle School PTAs:
Share out school emails as you receive them. And consider sharing out the district learning resources for grades 6-8 (they also include a suggested weekly schedule that families may find helpful).

High School PTAs:
Share out information as you receive it regarding Running start, AP testing, IB info, graduation info, etc. A great thing to share out is Dr. Reid's live video information session for Seniors this Wednesday (3/25) at 2:00.

Breakfast To Go!

Photo of the table set up in front of the Moorlands Elementary main office where people could come and pick up a to-go breakfast bag.During the first full week of NSD school closure (March 9-13), there was no district breakfast service. Moorlands PTA saw this need and took action! The PTA coordinated making to-go breakfast bags for families that usually relied on school to provide breakfast. The bags were set outside the school office from 9am - 6:30pm for pick-up by anyone who needed it. The bags included items like shelf stable milk, applesauce, mini cereals, packets of oatmeal and breakfast bars, which were donated by the community. Huge high-fives to Moorlands PTA for recognizing and working to support this community need! (Photo courtesy of Quinn Wyatt.)

Virtual Spirit Days

Kokanee PTA jumped into the first week of online learning by posting a video on their Facebook page inviting their community to participate in a virtual spirit day and staff appreciation. At their class zoom meetings on Friday, March 13th, students wore their spirit wear and held up signs thanking staff and teachers. Bear Creek PTA and Frank Love PTA both held a virtual spirit week on Facebook to help continue a sense of connection in their community during last week's online learning pause. Each day, they posted a theme and invited families to share their pictures to help raise spirits and build connections. In addition to hosting a virtual spirit week this week on Facebook, Wellington PTA is also hosting virtual events, including Family Movie Night and a PTA Q&A event.

It is exciting to see the creative ways our PTAs are developing to raise spirits and bring families (virtually) together!

Event Adaptation

Inglemoor High School PTSA is working to pivot their cancelled parent education night into something a bit different. In partnership with their school counseling department and their originally scheduled parent education speaker, they are looking at hosting a weekly series of one-hour Zoom sessions specifically to help support parents in dealing with COVID-19. The first 15-20 minutes would be content delivery followed by Q and A from the participants. Beyond that, they are also working to offer something similar for students. The creative thinking and collaboration being employed to help support families during these challenging times is so inspiring!
Is your PTA doing something that makes you #PTAProud? Or have you seen or heard about PTA activities in Northshore that inspire or deserve recognition? We would love to hear about it! Please contact Melissa Kline or Cindy Jensen with your program, story, or event!

Northshore Nourishing Network Resource List

Northshore Nourishing Network website has been updated with current information about local food banks and free meal information. Some local food banks may not be operating on their regular schedule right now and are instead offering pre-packed bags of groceries. Some community meal providers may not be serving sit-down meals and have switched to providing bagged meals-to-go. Use their list as a starting point and if you are in need, try to call providers ahead of time to check.
