Council Elections and Meeting Re-cap
Many thanks to all who made time to attend Northshore Council PTSA's first general meeting of 2018-19 on September 17th. It was an eventful meeting! Nominations were taken from the floor and four new Council officers were elected:
  • Grace Jurado and Carrie McKenzie - co-Presidents
  • Cindy Jenson - First Vice-President
  • Melissa Kline - Vice-President East
Thanks to each of them for stepping up to help lead Northshore Council PTSA!

In addition to elections, members voted on a revised mission statement, approved goals and updated Standing Rules for 2018-19, and approved an updated budget. And Carrie McKenzie announced the new Educational Speaker and Event Grant program offered by Council (details below!). We also heard from district leaders, including NSD Superintendent Michelle Reid, School Board Director Amy Cast, and NSD Partnerships and Volunteer Coordinator Natalie Campbell, who each shared information, updates and answered questions about recent projects and current initiatives. Northshore YMCA Assistant Teen Program Director, Andrea Stanley, shared information about their new Northshore Middle School youth program and openings on their Teen Leadership Board.

Council meetings are a great way to network with other PTA and community leaders and learn about what is happening in the district and PTA. We hope you'll join us at our next general membership meeting on Monday, November 5th!
Meet Your Council co-Presidents
Grace Jurado
I joined PTA when my oldest was in kindergarten ten years ago and have served in many roles over the years, including four years on Council as Area VP and Treasurer. I am excited to serve as Council co-President this year! I have three children in the Northshore School District: one at Inglemoor High School, one at Northshore Middle School and one in our final year at Woodin Elementary. I love how PTA brings people with so many different backgrounds and perspectives together for a shared passion--advocating for children and families.
Carrie McKenzie
It’s been my pleasure to serve all of you through PTA for over 6 years now.  No matter how big or small the event or initiative, the goal will always be the same: to enrich the lives of the students, staff and families at our schools.   There are big ideas that lead to long days but getting paid in hugs and thank yous is plenty enough for me.   My husband and I have a wonderful daughter in 6th grade at Leota, so we still have many PTA years ahead of us. #PTAProud

PTA Praise
A big shout out to Northshore Middle School PTSA for their wonderful new idea to help spread the word about their fall fundraiser, Pass the Hat. They made a PowerPoint video with music that clearly and simply explained why and how to donate. This was played during their curriculum night in all classrooms. Check out their facebook page, Northshore Middle School PTSA, to watch the full video. Great job, Northshore MS PTSA!
Council Kudos!
  • Thank you to Grace Jurado and Robin McKenzie for representing Northshore Council and our local PTAs at the NSD School Board meeting on September 11th and for raising awareness about National Preparedness Month and the importance of being prepared in the event of an emergency.
  • Many thanks to the Region 6 Service Delivery Team and WSPTA leaders who provided training for Northshore PTA leaders after the general meeting on 9/17, including Sue Freeman, Cindy Jenson, Grace Jurado, Janice Kutzera, Monika Scotti, and Robin Zaback.
