Just Wow!!
Each month with the Atlanta Families’ Awards brings a new adventure, and I must say, the last couple have been pretty exciting! In our March newsletter I spoke of the pure joy experienced during our 2018 AFAEE winner Surprise Days (see a slide show of our Surprise Day images by clicking here). Our fantastic winners are pictured above, seven dynamic educators ready to expand their impact on students, schools and communities through the implementation of their AWESOME projects (For an overview of their proposed projects, please watch our Winners’ Video here). We are excited to watch their projects bloom and grow over the next year, and can’t wait to brag on all of them (just a little bit) to all of you!

May 2nd marked the 13th annual Atlanta Families’ Awards for Excellence in Education Awards Ceremony, where we celebrated the past and future accomplishments of our group of winners. This year the event was held at the Wimbish House, an intimate venue that somehow made the event feel even more special. Beyond celebrating the winners themselves, we were able to highlight some outstanding student performers (I can’t stop thinking about the chamber group from Taylor Road Middle School.  I mean, WOW!) An extra special part of the evening was when AFAEE board member Ned Michaels went off script, just a little, to honor his sister Katie McDowell for her tireless efforts in beginning and developing this wonderful organization. If you would like to relive that special night (or experience a bit of it for the first time) please click here to see some of the images captured by photographer Ashley Kennedy.

Without a doubt, the journey continues!  Our 2017 winners have now completed the inaugural year of their projects, which allows us to share the impact of their work with all of you. If you have not done so already, please follow us on Facebook to learn more about the efforts and accomplishments of our previous award winners.  We are now preparing to support the project implementation of our 2018 winners while we reopen nominations for the 2019 Cohort August 30th! If you know an outstanding teacher or leader in the Metro Atlanta area who is deserving of this prestigious honor, I hope you will nominate them this fall.

To launch the 2019 application season with a bang, WE HAVE A NEW WEBSITE! Please take a look at the new Atlanta Families’ webpage designed to share our story and the story of our Winners’ Circle. This creative, innovative, and hard working group of committed educators continues to blaze paths forward as they work to make a difference in our Metro Atlanta public schools. It is an honor to celebrate their successes with this new platform.

The sun is out, the beach is calling, and our devoted teachers and leaders are (hopefully) taking an overdue vacation. If I describe the last few months as “Wow”, the next few bring nothing but “Wonder”. Rest up, AFAEE family. There are exciting things ahead! ☺
