Keeping Excellent Educators in Public Schools!
2019 winner Kelly Dyar (center) is welcomed by (from left to right) 2018 winner Dawn Parker, 2018 winner Jennifer Blodgett, 2015 winner Jennifer Dunn and 2016 winner Tisha Williamson.

New Name, Same Mission

Today marks a brand new start for this great organization: AFAEE is now the Teach On Project!

Some of you were generous with your time and talent as we journeyed through the rebranding process.  Thank you to everyone that completed an interview, filled out a survey and informally provided your constructive feedback.  We have done it.

Our new name recaptures who we have always been, an organization dedicated to retaining the best educators in Metro Atlanta's public schools.  This new name is simple and to the point, no fuss, no extra words.  We support teachers so they can Teach On.

47% of teachers in Georgia leave the profession within the first five years. Research tells us that educators leave because of a lack of participation in decisions, a lack of benefits and compensation, and a lack of quality support, resources, and professional learning.  High quality teacher retention is a community issue, an economic imperative and a critical need for the prosperity of OUR future.

With our new name, we welcomed six new members to our winner alumni group, now called the Teacher Leader Collective. Our 2019 cohort of grantees is:

Dr. Doug Doblar, Gwinnett County Schools teacher
Kelly Dyar, Gwinnett County Schools teacher
Cherisse Campbell, Fulton County Schools principal
Anna Dunn, DeKalb County Schools teacher
Dr. Andrew Lovett, Atlanta Public Schools principal
Ashleigh Spatz, Atlanta Public Schools teacher

We are thrilled to honor these outstanding educators, and are excited to see their dynamic project ideas unfold during the 2019-2020 school year!

Yes, the future is bright!  We are also very proud of all of the work that led us to this year.  If you have not already, please read our 2018 annual report (click here), which captures the outstanding work accomplished last year.  Since it is also the last time we will share our old AFAEE logo, it feels like the perfect addition to this transition message today.

We have so much more to do.  With a new name, new energy, and the marching orders to "Teach On!" we are primed to end 2019 with a BANG!

Won’t you join us?
