Patient & Family Engagement @ BIDMC

Helping BIDMC get Conversation Ready

Patient/family advisor Erica Dente interviewed Jennie Greene and Dr. Lauge Sokol-Hessner, project managers for BIDMC's Conversation Ready initiative, about the work the hospital is undertaking. Conversation Ready is a component of the Conversation Project, created by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) to ensure that everyone's goals for end-of-life care are expressed, recorded, and respected. Where we've been

Over the past few weeks, patient and family advisors have been:
- presenting at the Patient Care Committee meeting of BIDMC's Board
- giving feedback on patient education to BIDMC's Coumadin Clinic
- helping BIDMC staff develop a training on service excellence

Advisors help design clinic

Three years ago, a small group of patient and family advisors gave feedback on a project just getting started - the redesign of BIDMC's Pre-Admissions Testing clinic. Advisor feedback influenced more than just the way the clinic looks today. Input led to changes in the way staff reach out to patients before they even set foot in the clinic.

In June, the clinic opened its new doors. Watch a photo slideshow featuring some of the advisors who participated in this redesign process and read about the work involved.

Get to know a patient advisor

Patient advisor Nicola Truppin was recently featured on BIDMC's Behind the Badge, a short weekly interview with staff and volunteers from all around the medical center. See Nicola's interview.

Shared decision making
