Weekly Wellness Tip: Know (and Trust) Your Limits
"Most kids aren’t going back to school this calendar year; school districts have already conceded as much. Parents are in this not just for a few weeks, but for a few months...
Parents across the country have been thrown into the deep end of the pool." - Bethany Mandel for The Atlantic.
During this Stay at Home call and closing of all major institutions and businesses, the struggle for parents is trying to do too many roles at the same time. The ask to 'school at home' is a tall order. Most parents are not teachers; and teaching isn't our strength. Parents, what if we opted out of the stress? What if we focused on what we're good at, and do that with our kids?
There are great online resources for ages 2-18 such as Khan Academy that parents can use for their kids without the stress of trying to teach them for hours each day. We could also use this time to teach them life skills, as noted in this great read from National Geographic.
There is truly no one-size-fits-all approach to this. We are in unprecedented times. Know your limits; accept your limits; and do what is best and possible, in this moment, for you and your children.
