Good news, asteroid friends and followers!
The world came together once again for Asteroid Day, and the events were prolific, exciting, and successful. Asteroid Day founding partners B612 and California Academy of Sciences collaborated again for the 2nd annual Asteroid Day on June 30th. The program was stacked with exciting speakers and activities during the day and night. A big shout out to Ryan Wyatt and his team for their help in making it a success!
Also, as a founding partner and major supporter of Asteroid Day, B612 is excited to see the growth of this important global campaign. Asteroid Day allows the scientific community to come together to share research and educate the broader public. After co-founding this effort only 19 months ago, we are pleased to see the breadth and depth of interest in engaging around the topic of asteroids and planetary defense. Asteroid Day’s goal this year was to double the prior year's number of events from 150 to 300, which was more than surpassed.
We also saw a number of high-profile press pieces, including an OpEd in the Guardian reiterating why we must stay vigilant for hazardous asteroid impacts. The OpEd highlights Asteroid Day expert panel members around the world including Dr. Clark Chapman, B612 co-founder and member of our Board.
