Let's Hear It for Asteroid Day 2015!
As you know from our recent newsletters, B612 Foundation was a founding partner of Asteroid Day. We’re so pleased to say that this worldwide event went above and beyond all of our expectations. From Astronaut Scott Kelly tweeting a special Asteroid Day greeting from the International Space Station to people all over the world sharing their messages, #AsteroidDay trended on Twitter with over 33,000,000 mentions! The iconic (and perfect) rousing Grammy Hall of Fame inductee song “We Will Rock You” by Asteroid Day co-founder Brian May of Queen was the official Asteroid Day anthem. This first Asteroid Day event was seminal in raising the topic of asteroid detection to a global conversation. Even television host Jimmy Kimmel gave a nod to Asteroid Day.
Thousands of people have signed the 100X Declaration to date (and you can, too! We encourage you to add your name.). More than 91 events took place in over 33 countries all around the world, with premier events in London and San Francisco taking center stage. Our local event at California Academy of Sciences was a huge success, and we hope you were able to tune-in to our live webcast or participate in an event near you. (If not, you can watch the entire day at Cal Academy here.)
It was truly a great day for asteroid awareness! We hope you’ll enjoy the links below and learn more about Asteroid Day 2015!
