Letter From The Principal

By: Theresa Francis, Principal

As we come to the end of our year of celebration, commemorating 50 years of excellence in educating students with developmental disabilities I am so excited to envision what the next 50 years has in store for our Notre Dame community. We will continue to offer the quality education that we have worked through the years to develop. Our curriculum is now supported by a detailed scope and sequence that guides our classroom instruction and assures that we are meeting the individual needs of our students.
We are teaching our students to use technology effectively not only in the classrooms but in the community and on job sites as well. IPads have allowed us to individualize the learning for our students in the classroom and assist the students in following job routines in the community. We were fortunate this year to be able to purchase a SMART table, this new technology allows several students to interact at the same time with the learning environment. It is not only fun, but a great educational tool!
Our vocational program continues to grow adding the SPCA and World of Goods to our job sites this year.   We continue to look for paid job opportunities as our students transition out of our program and into the community.
Notre Dame has jumped feet first into the social media arena.  If you want to know what is going on at school, follow us on FACEBOOK. Mr. Eckler has done a wonderful job of sharing all the activities that our students are involved in with the larger community.  Emily Frye,  board member, redesigned our web site to make it more user friendly. We will continue to research ways to use the internet to tell our story.
I continue to be proud and thankful to be a part of this wonderful school community. I believe that the foundation built over these past 50 years will support us as we continue to grow as leaders in the field of educating  students with developmental disabilities.

Prom 2014

Prom was an amazing night! Once again taking place at the incredible Chase Rotunda, Notre Dame School Students had a blast on carriage rides, enjoying delicious food, and dancing away to tunes spun by Mr. Daniel. It was a beautiful evening, and we are so thankful to all the staff, parents, and volunteers for making this evening so special!

Easter Cantata a Beautiful Success

The presentation of our Easter Cantata on April 23rd was absolutely beautiful. "The Story of the Three Trees!" recounted the story of Jesus life from birth to death to Reserruction. It was sure an amazing experience filled with heartfelt perfromances from all the Notre Dame School students. Thank you to Sister Maureen for all of her hard work!

"If you place your trust in Him, God will give you great gifts."

Employer Luncheon

We want to thank all of our wonderful job sites who were honored in a very special Employer Luncheon Tuesday afternoon! These job sites enable Notre Dame School Students an opportunity to develop vocational skills in a wide array of settings.

Notre Dame Spring Sports

The Special Olympics Spring Games saw our Notre Dame track and soccer teams in action.  Friday Night Lights- had our  lightning fast relay teams competing!  Excited filled the air as Notre Dame had 4 relay teams!  Team “Bling Bling” ( for the “bling” of the many medals) continued their track and field events on Saturday.  Dashes, long distance running, shot-put, softball and turbo jav throwing events keep our Notre Dame track members busy and collecting more “bling”.  Notre Dame Soccer had some exciting games on Saturday!  The team ended up in a 3 way tie for first!  With the tie-breakers, our team brought home silver medals!
Congrats to all of the athletes who participated at the Spring Games!

May Crowning

On Wednesday, May the 7th, the Catholic religion classes participated in the annual May Crowning Ceremony at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on campus.  The students sang songs and recited prayers to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Graduating students from all of the departments placed flowers at the foot of the statue of Mary while one of the Vocational students placed a floral crown on her head.  It is always a very touching ceremony.
We are so proud of Notre Dame School student Alex Sessions for participating in The Be Beautiful Be Yourself DC Gala! Alex walked the runway in style! He is Global’s 2011 Ambassador. He loves sports and has won Special Olympics medals in swimming, basketball and track. Way to go, Alex!

We Create Change

The staff and students of The Notre Dame School of Dallas have been collecting change for "We Create Change," an initiative of Free The Children to build 200 schools and improve access to education in developing communities around the globe. $20 in change can provide a brick for the construction of a new school. Build a school, and your change can educate hundreds of children. Give children a chance to learn, and your change can help a generation make change for themselves.

Ms. Debie spearheaded this project and we have raised $140.69 or enough for 7 bricks! Thank you for your support!
