We are celebrating the 18th year of helping our grads to REALLY connect!

February is 1-2-1 Month!

Did you know that the first full week of February is International Networking Week?  Instead of just celebrating during that one week, we are going to allow for everyone to note it for the whole month by having a 1-2-1 month challenge.  More details will come to you via FB and also email, but here is what we can tell you now.

There will be several coffee shops/restaurants in both TOL and CLE that will be hosts for your 1-2-1s to be counted in the contest. The “rules” are that you must check in to the location and also comment at the 1-2-1 event page to be counted.  Also, if you review the location (which you can do only once) you will get an extra entry.  There may be additional opportunities, too.

The contest will run from 12:01 a.m. Feb 3 through 11:59 PM on Feb 28. The winners (TOL and CLE) will be announced within 48 hours after that.
Monthly Lunches

It’s back!  Monthly lunches are continuing for 2020.  We will again be at Smokey Bones 512 W Dussel Blvd, Maumee.  They will be from 11:30-1. The dates of the lunches in the next three months are:
Feb 17 - During Feb and March we are going to be supporting Build-a-Bed by bringing bedding for twin size beds to the lunch.
March 16
April 20

This is the third Monday of the month.  We are going to ask you to register in advance which means you can use your business credit card to do so making it easier to track that expense.  The fee for lunch is $16 and the link to register is: https://squareup.com/store/connext-nation/item/cn-lunch.

Did You Know?

Connext Nation is nationally certified to provide CPEs credits for CPAs. For the mini class CPAs get 2 credits and for the ten week class they get 24.  Our next Toledo 10 week series starts next spring on March 13, 2020, but there is a mini class yet in March both in Toledo and Cleveland.  The Cleveland starting date for the 10 week class is March 11, 2020. We will also be offering Ann Arbor classes beginning in the near future!.
Board of Action

At a recent BOA meeting, the members were asked, “What is the first thought you have when you wake up?”  Some of their answers were very funny.  What would your answer be?

Member Spotlight – Chad Kidd

I believe I was able to get to the real meat and potatoes of what Connext Nation course is truly all about, thanks to one Chad Kidd! Let’s start with my favorite part of this entire interview! My biggest question! What gifts has this course given to Chad? He replied, “I used to just kind of skim the water in life before and then Connext taught me to dive deeper. Finding the real me is what founder Debby Peters wanted from me. I mean, wow, I was personally intrigued! In a world where many are told that they are being too mean for holding people accountable and that being honest with them is a faux pas, I wanted to help people succeed by being nothing short of 100% real.”

Well, Chad Kidd because of you I would totally check this course out and loved how real you kept it during our chat!
Fun Fact: Chad’s favorite flick, 1998 comedy-drama “Hope Floats” starring Sandra Bullock. A total must see of love blossoming. Aw-w-w!

Family First:  Chad is a den leader; the proud husband of a nurse and bible study is essential to this man. They are also involved with Taekwondo! So cool!  Teamwork is a key tool in the Kidd’s bags. Failure is not an option.  Chad comes from a place of humbled confidence that he doesn’t even know he has.  The Autism Spectrum Disorder is near and dear to the Kidd Family because his daughter is on the Spectrum. If you’re not familiar, it is a condition that affects social interaction, communication, interests, and behavior. Slowing down to make those connections with others is what matters most.

Chad’s Why- “Building the relationships is my superpower.” He cares more about you as a child of God than as a source of income. Now that is not something you see every day but is however amazing customer care that you can feel. Chad has defiantly found his why and it shows. He is right where he needs to be and every situation, good and bad, has brought him to this place of making such a positive difference.

Targets- Chad would like to work with people who want to better themselves on any level of financial literacy. He says, “People who appreciate education are the key in our business. They are willing to get outside their comfort zone to grow.”  Great things never came from comfort zones. But it is okay to be in comfy clothes while outside your comfort zone!

Everyone has a purpose and Chad is grateful for CN Grad, Bill Wilson’s purpose, which included helping him along the way. “Bill is someone I look up to!  He commands respect without saying it.”  To be in such a community where you’re surrounded with people who just want you to succeed sounds like a true piece of heaven right here on earth! Chad was a first timer to being interviewed! He is a self-proclaimed introvert. Chad, you did great for having this interview sprung on you! I can tell how important this was to Bill Wilson who asked for my assistance, but I do believe just from listening to Chad today that Debby Peters won’t settle for this,…she will want your all.  Bill, it has been a true honor to meet Chad Kidd!  My husband and I are looking forward to his workshop and have tons of other small business owners that would be so thankful for a recommendation to him.

Chad Facts  1) The Kidd household is a God-fearing household.  2) Wife, Kate and their two cool and intriguing children are his reasons for being a better human.  3) This course has made Chad step outside of his comfort zone like he never thought possible to protect and secure safety for his tribe and the rest of the people in the world.  4) Chad THE Kidd is a good person and if he could work for free, he would.  5)  He deserves your stewardship; he genuinely wants to give every family the opportunity to be financially literate!  Contact Chad directly about his monthly financial workshops that are free of charge. He says, “Even if they don’t choose to go with me at Transamerica Financial Advisors, I still want to help.”

If you’d like to get to know Chad THE Kidd more, schedule a time to meet over coffee to do just that!

Horntooting!

Tell Me Exactly What to Say

Excerpt from Tell Me Exactly What to Say

What do you say to the organizer of the group?

Her title could be Executive Director or President or Event Planner, etc.  No matter the title, she is really good at herding cats!  Each event she plans is like a mini-wedding or maybe it even rivals the complexity of a grand scale wedding.  Why is it important to chat with these people?  The foremost reason is that this person knows most everyone in attendance and can easily make an introduction for you.  Second likes to hear kudos about the event that she has put her heart and soul into.  Positive feedback means the start of a friendship for life!

In the midst of the event, you will have to take a gut check about when to start your conversation.  If she looks a bit stressed and seems to be handling a thousand details all at one time, it may not be the best time to introduce yourself. In this situation, you might wait until the end, when the crowd has dispersed a bit.

So that time is now……

Rudy: Hi Antonia, (reading her name from her name tag) I am Rudy Javez and this is my first time to attend this association meeting.  I am absolutely and totally impressed with the caliber of this meeting.

Antonia:  Thanks, Rudy.  What did you like about it?

Rudy:  The organization and attention to details was so evident.  The woman at the registration desk acted like I was expected and they paired me up with another member.  I can’t tell you how much that meant to me.  I felt very welcomed. And then the speaker was top-notch.  I had no idea that astronomy could be so fascinating.

Antonia: I love that feedback.  We work very hard on making everyone feel welcome at our events, including our guests!  I can’t take credit for the caliber of the speaker, but we do have a pretty stringent set of criteria that our speakers must meet.  Rudy what do you do?

Rudy:  I’m an attorney and I just went into solo practice here in town.

Antonia:  What type of law?

Rudy: I help Realtors get to the closing table as quickly as possible.

Antonia:  I guess that means that you are a real estate attorney?

Rudy: You’re good!

Antonia:  Thanks, it’s my job, but I do love it!  If you join our group, do you want to meet Realtors?

Rudy: That would be great.  How would I meet them?

Antonia: I can introduce you to them, but first...(she dangles paperwork) you have to fill out our membership application.

Rudy: (Laughing) Well, I was going to ask about that anyway.

Antonia:  Great, is there any other way I could help you?

Rudy:  Actually, I was going to see if you might have time to meet so that you can share the ins and outs of being a successful member of this group.

Antonia:  I’m going on vacation tomorrow, but will be back at the end of next week.  How about the week after?

The Dichotomy of Leadership
By: Jacko Willink, Leif Babin

Leadership is not always black and white. There is a whole lot of grey area that exists that we must adapt to and overcome. After writing their first book Extreme Ownership Jacko Willink and Leif Babin realized this very concept and quickly published their second book, The Dichotomy of Leadership. Leadership is about walking that fine line and balancing between two opposing tendencies. To be a good leader, one must be a good follower. To complete a task, one must stay focused, but not so focused that you forget to look at the bigger picture. It takes practice, awareness, and understanding to refine our leadership skills.

If you are looking for more tools to round out and elevate yourself as a leader, this book will not disappoint. Although the Dichotomy of Leadership is compelling on its own, I highly recommend reading Extreme Ownership first. The concepts discussed in The Dichotomy of Leadership build directly from the concepts taught in Extreme Ownership.  With the concepts in these books, Jacko and Leif give us the tools to lead our teams to victory!
