Wireless Face Recognition in a 1920's crank camera

Lightweight hand crank camera The camera resembles an early hand-crank film camera that hides wireless face recognition webcam technology taking a series of face capture images of each participant that appear a few minutes later on the globe. The facial images are animated in groups, becoming cherubs fluttering amidst a range of different video background

Another new feature : Carousel

Carousel This latest feature sees faces from participants mapped onto different figures on a carousel turning around the sphere. For December we're using seasonal figures such as these from Victorian greetings cards and illustrations, but other sets of figures are in the pipeline. Watch out for footage on our website soon.

Great Sunderland archive footage

Going Places For Sunderland we are also presenting two archive films. Going Places (see this short teaser) a wonderful film from 1955 showing the town and the docks in full swing and also the summer rush to Roker beach (link to beach webcam), all narrated by plummy voiced Lionel Marson.
The other period classic, Nice One Sunderland (see this short teaser) comes from 1974 following Sunderland's epic FA cup victory the previous year. It shows scenes of industry and leisure to a prog-rock soundtrack. My favorite moment is in the glassworks with a guy blowing glass with a fag on - and looking a bit warm.

Watch our Lightweight in Berlin video

If you haven't seen our Lightweight in Berlin video, why not catch up now? For twelve nights Lightweight became a key feature of the city wide Festival of Light at the heart of the German capital.
