Welcome to GracePoint Church, where we are committed to helping you take your next steps toward knowing and serving a holy God of grace and truth.
Any kid with a hammer, a couples nails and two pieces of wood can make one – a cross. The construction of a cross is simple yet obvious in its design and familiar to everyone. You can’t glace around a city without seeing one on a building somewhere – a cross! It has become as popular as jewelry and even a tattoo – a cross! It is the universal symbol of Christianity throughout the entire world, and yet it is a tool of execution – a cross.
But the simplicity of the design for a cross is also the declaration of its greatest significance with one beam nailed across another. The vertical beam points skyward to remind us of a Holy God of love, grace, justice and mercy. The horizontal beam reaches out to represent the world that God “so loved that He gave His one and only Son”. The width of God’s love for us is surpassed only by the height of God’s holiness over us.
The exact connection of those two beams represents the point where a Holy God forgave sinful man without lowering His standards of perfection. Jesus, the perfect Son of God, willingly laid His body on that cross in our place to satisfy God’s wrath against our sin. God placed my sin on His sinless Son and punished it “to death” in Jesus Christ.
This coming week our minds as believers should turn often to the reality of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for us. The cross is the foundation of our eternal hope and is the motivation of our living purpose.
The cross should help each one of us take our next steps toward knowing and serving our Holy God of grace and love during each day of this significant week.
From a Shepherd’s Heart,
Pastor Perry Kallis
